The Emergence of Hardcore Hip Hop and its effect on society

 Gangsta Rap is defined as a genre of hip-hop that reflects the violent lifestyles of inner-city youth.

Despite its emerging success in the early 90s the nature of Gangsta rap was accused of influencing society in a negative way. Violence profanity blatant disregard for authorities images of gangs guns sexism

GANGSTA RAP LYRICS  musical lyrics have been accused of misguiding the mindset of the young African American community  many listeners might think of going to jail as a rite of passage.  say it gives “street cred”  feel that many listeners are unable to separate their real lives from the music

Rap artists point of view……  Their songs are raising awareness to the circumstances and expresses the thoughts and feelings of young minorities residing in that environment and what they face on a day-to- day basis. As a result, it has become widely popular and successful because it is so relatable to their audience which is predominately African American minorities.

N.W.A. got the ball of gangster rap rolling with the production of "Fuck The Police" in 1988, from their album Straight Outta Compton Lyrics from this track expressed hatred and violence towards police officers and implied that they were all racists. An introduction to the song reads: Fuck the police coming straight from the underground. A young nigger got it bad 'cause I'm brown... They have the authority to kill a minority. Fuck that shit cause I ain't the one, For a punk motherfucker with a badge and a gun to be beating on. Searching my car, looking for the product. Thinking every nigga is selling narcotic

MOST NOTABLE GANGSTA RAP ARTISTS N.W.A TUPAC SHAKUR SNOOP DOGG

THE N WORD……..  Gangsta rap artists have increasingly used "nigga" in their lyrics, repackaging it and selling it not just to their own inner-city neighborhoods.  In an interview with Oprah the hip hop rapper Jay-Z had this to say regarding the use of the word “nigga.”  word-Video word-Video

THE N WORD CONT’D……  Some African Americans, mostly young people, share the same view as Jay-Z on this subject matter, they argue that their open use of the word will eventually demystify it, strip it of its racist meaning.  Many older people are still not convinced for them the word will always bring back memories of segregation, of being turned away from ballot boxes, of enforced social inferiority of black people  This is still and ongoing debate that will most likely continue as long as they are used in the Hip Hop community.

Positive influence of Gangsta Rap  has given black youths a platform to highlight social injustices and inequalities  rap instigates a dialogue between African American youth and the rest of society  draws attention to complex dimensions of ghetto life ignored by most Americans  promote discussion about important issues and talk about things that might not otherwise be able to be addressed in any other realm of entertainment.

"Sky's the Limit" is the third single from the Notorious B.I.G's second album Life After Death. An introduction reads…. Uh, a nigga never been as broke as me, I like that When I was young I had two pair of Lees, besides that The pin stripes and the gray (uh-huh) The one I wore on Mondays and Wednesdays While niggas flirt, I'm sewing tigers on my shirt And alligators Ya wanna see the inside, huh, I see ya later 6glPkj8

Gangsta Rap Music  So in conclusion, best way that to describe the effects of gangsta rap music is “you are what you eat.” Meaning what you consume and how you consume it is what you will be, so listen wisely. Every song Gangsta Rap song isn’t going to appeal to the masses or have a positive effect on society but some do. You have to be willing to listen.
