Transport Systems Who we are What we do Our view of the future How you can collaborate with us

Catapults A new force for innovation & growth Part of a world-leading network of technology and innovation centres Bridge the gap between businesses, academia, research and government Long-term investment to transform the UK’s ability to create new products and services Open up global opportunities for the UK and generate sustained economic growth for the future Being established and overseen by the Technology Strategy Board Transport Systems High Value Manufacturing Satellite Applications Offshore Renewable Energy Connected Digital Economy Future Cities Cell Therapy 7 Catapults £1bn private and public sector investment All Catapults up and running in 2013

Catapult Locations

Transport Systems Catapult Introduction ‘To drive the UK’s global leadership in Intelligent Mobility, promoting sustained UK economic growth and wellbeing 5 Integration of vehicles, infrastructure, information and communication “systems” enabling the movement of people and goods. Unification, building open working relationships within and across, sectors, modes and regions overcoming inhibitions and limitations as a result of historically independent industry sector development

Transport Systems Catapult Concept Fostering collaboration, coordination and integration Developing environments that stimulate new ways of thinking Facilitating cross industry challenge and solution sharing Unlocking latent capacity Developing new market for transport systems and selling UK expertise globally 6

“Heightened Collaboration” Who we work with…….? 7

Year 1 – What have we done, an update? Establishment Chairman, CEO and NEDs recruited Delivery team established Executive team recruitment process under way 5-Year Delivery Plan under review Site Permanent site established as Milton Keynes (facility being developed) Start-up team based in Euston Tower Website established and regularly updated Commenced the building of enabling capabilities National Transport Systems Model facility (NTSM) Integrated Test Environment (ITE) Development of capability and skill sets Includes experience from Government, Industry and Academia Secondees from Transport, Construction & Automotive Industry, Department of Transport, TfL 8

Year 1 – First projects Demonstrators – Low Carbon Urban Transport Zone (LUTZ) Interface challenges – Airport Integration Business Environments – DfT innovation in operations and contracts Shared Knowledge Base – Autonomous Vehicle systems Modelling and System Intelligence – Instant Weather / Now-casting Disruptive Idea – Sentiment mapping for Transport Systems 9

A view of the future 10 Seamless, Efficient, Desirable, Accessible, Integrated, Controlled, Self Sustaining Transport Systems

A view of the future - How Intelligent Mobility and the Catapult support a Low Carbon Transport system Efficiency realised through system integration (V2V, V2I, PD2V etc..) Visibility and choice of “End to End” journeys (individual assessment of impacts) Development of Integrated transport system thinking, as the “norm not the after thought” The Catapult will catalyse and engage in (if appropriate) cross sector projects The Catapults will facilitate cross discipline collaboration and sharing of technologies The Catapult is modally agnostic and can provide impartial assessment of projects 11

How you can collaborate with us Active Involvement: Passive Involvement Participation at a number of levels: Challenge Owners Problem Solvers Clients Knowledge Hubs 12

How you can collaborate with us Integrated Test Environment (ITE) 13 Cross sector, multi-mode integration projects and demonstrators Collaboration to generate new market opportunities for participants Test Bed UK - capitalising on the UK strengths as a multi scale test environment Scoping workshops and development programme
