Thermal Energy & Heat

Learning Scale – I can … 4 – Design an investigation to show the flow of heat from warmer to cooler objects. 3 – Describe how heat flows in predictable ways, moving from warmer objects to cooler objects until they reach the same temperature. 2 – Explain that adding heat or removing heat may result in a temperature change or change of state. 1 – Identify key terms such as heat, thermal energy, radiation, conduction, and convection.

HEAT TRANSFER CONDUCTION – The transfer of thermal energy with no transfer of matter.

HEAT TRANSFER CONVECTION – The transfer of thermal energy when particles of a liquid or gas move from one place to another

HEAT TRANSFER CONVECTION – in the earth and sun

HEAT TRANSFER RADIATION – The transfer of thermal energy by waves moving through space. ALL OBJECTS radiate energy!
