Introduction Intake Manifold Update Exhaust Manifold Update Mufflers

System Integration: Intake System in Car 6/12/2016 Vanderbilt Motorsports Intake and Exhaust Project3

System Integration: Intake System in Car 6/12/2016 Vanderbilt Motorsports Intake and Exhaust Project4

Intake System Currently waiting on fuel-proof resin for construction of velocity stacks Next step: connecting Venturi, conical bend, intake plenum, and velocity stacks

Exhaust System Decision to not construct exhaust system for the 2008 formula car Goal: possibly conduct research to guide 2009’s exhaust system design

Muffler Constraints –Maximum decibel level of 110 dB measured a half meter from the muffler –Must be lighter than 2007 muffler = 8.49 lb –Must cost less

Muffler Source:

Muffler: Insert Option 1 –Car Chemistry 3DI25R from Summit Racing –Inserted into collector of exhaust –Various diameters and lengths –Cost: Under $70 –Preliminary analysis shows that insert does not meet FSAE sound regulations –Insert is regulated for NHRA requirements

Muffler: Insert Source:

Muffler: Custom Built Option 2 –Build custom muffler –Materials: glass packing, perforated steel core- machined rolled, steel inlet, and aluminum outlet

6/12/2016 Vanderbilt Motorsports Intake and Exhaust Project12 Next Steps Purchase resin Construct velocity stacks System integration of intake manifold Muffler research and part selection
