 US flew its first jet in 1942 (XP-59A) but didn’t produce a jet fighter until 1944  The Lockheed F-80, Shooting Star was the first operational U.S. Jet fighter. Jet Propulsion

 Before end of war, Germany had produced 22 different models of jet aircraft.  The most famous jet of WWII was the Messerschmitt ME-262A  1400 produced but only 100 ever used Jet Propulsion

 Germany developed two  The V-1 and the V-2  The V-1 was:  26 ft long  Speed – 400 mph  Weighed 3,000 lbs  Carried 1,800 lbs of high explosives  It was called the “buzz bomb”  It was noisy and not very accurate “Vengeance Weapons”

 Between June 1944 & Mar 1945  Over 10,500 V-1s launched against England  1,900 were air launched HE-111 bombers  12,000 more targets in Europe  Most launched from ground ramps  Large and noisy nearly 4,000 were shot down over England by fighter aircraft and ground fire “Vengeance Weapons”
