Grammar: Superlatives! The superlative of something is the most (or the least) of a descriptive quality. With short adjectives, superlatives are structured as follows: Examples:She would choose the cheapest car possible. Even his ugliest clothes are better looking than mine. Short Adjectives are those having one or – if the adjective ends in ‘-er,’ ‘-ow,’ ‘-le,’ ‘-y’ -- two syllables. A final ‘y’ is replaced by an ‘i’ before the ‘-est.’ With long adjectives, superlatives are structured as follows: Examples:These guys are the most intelligent I’ve ever met. It will soon by July 4 th, the most popular American holiday. Negative superlatives are formed by using ‘the least’ + [adjective]. Example:She’s the least outgoing of my friends.

Closure 1. Do you enjoy going to big parties and celebrations? What do you enjoy most about them? 2. Do you prefer going to see the opera or a concert? 3. Do you try to do something special on public holidays with your family?
