Hermes and Hephaestus By Elizabeth McAdoo, Abby Goudey, Simon Weiner 1/31 3 rd period

Hermes Birth When Hermes was born he escaped his crib and went searching for adventure. He stole one of Apollo’s cow from Apollo’s herd. Then Apollo went searching for his beloved cow, and heard a beautiful sound coming from a cave. Apollo went into the cave and saw a baby (Hermes) and a cow. The baby was playing a beautiful instrument called a lyre. In exchange for stealing his cow, Hermes taught Apollo how to play the lyre.

The Mystical Lyre In exchange for stealing his cow, Hermes taught Apollo how to play the lyre. In addition to the lyre he gave Apollo a reed made by Hermes very own hands. Although what is a trade with no price, his herdsman's staff is price Apollo had to pay.

The Messenger God As another gift from Apollo, he took Hermes to Mt. Olympus to meet Zeus. Zeus appointed Hermes as the Messenger and Thieves As the messenger god, Hermes went back and forth to the underworld, delivering dead bodies to Hades.

Hephaestus’s Bad Start Hera wanted to impress Zeus with a good strong child, but when Hephaestus was born he was ugly and tiny, leaving her no choice, Hera threw Hephaestus off Mt. Olympus and into the sea. A Naiad named Thetis found him lying on the beach and took him to be her son. One day, Thetis found Hephaestus making pebble necklaces, and took them, and wore the pebble necklace to the next meeting with the gods.

Coming “Home” Hera saw the beautiful pebble necklaces upon Thetis’s neck and demanded to have the craftsmen who made them. When Hera found out it was her son, Hephaestus, she gave him a new home.

The New God Also when Hera found out that Hephaestus was the one who made the pebble necklaces, she made him the God of Craftsmanship, Fire, and Forge.
