7 th Grade History Homework Tutorial How to Create a Benchmark Study Guide

Benchmark Study Guide List Will be given to you at the beginning of each class unit. It is always available on the class website. If you lose it, you must print on your own.

Creating a Standard Definition Look up the definition by using: 1.Textbook Glossary 2.Dictionary 3.Textbook Index to read information and create a definition. Definitions need to be HAND WRITTEN on a lined sheet of paper. Here is an example:

Creating a POWER Term You must create 10 Power Terms using any words from the Benchmark Study Guide List in place of the standard definition. All writing must be HAND WRITTEN! Each Power Term is made by completing the following: 1.A Standard Definition 2.A Colored Illustration *print from the computer or hand draw! *no stick figures allowed! *use symbols to describe ideas! 3.The Historical Significance *create at least one sentence describing why this person/thing/or event is important! Typed Examples from Students

Essay Questions Essay questions can be found at the bottom of the Benchmark Study Guide List Use the textbook index to look up the answer to each question and thoroughly describe the answer in your own words. NO PLAGIARISM! Students who copy answers word for word from the textbook will not receive credit. Student Example

How I Will Grade Your Homework Your completed study guide will always be due on the day of the Benchmark Exam. Half-Way Checks will be performed roughly half-way through the unit to ensure that you are not procrastinating. All due dates are available via the calendar on the class website, however, frequent reminders will also be given in class. Half-Way Check: 25 points Full Check: 50 points Benchmark Study Guide Grading Rubric Power Term=3 points 1 point-Full standard definition 1 point-Colored Illustration 1 point-Significance Sentence Which Displays Understanding of Term. Standard Definition=1 point for Full Definition Essay Question=1 point for descriptive answer written in your own words which fully addresses the question.
