September 12, 2011 – Laptops!
Today you are going to learn how to log on to your computer with a password that you created. You will also activate your account and your Moodle account. We are going to walk you through all the steps and show you what you will be seeing on your computer. Listen carefully and follow the step by step directions. Do not jump ahead!
1.Touchpad operates the cursor. 2.Left and right mouse.
Open your laptops.
Press the button and Wait for the login screen Check to make sure your name is printed here. Tell your teacher if the name is not yours. Your student number is also here. 1.Check to make sure your name and id no. are correct. 2.Press the button to log in.
Press the CTRL + ALT+ Delete Keys at the same time.
Here is how one student holds down CTRL + Alt + Delete at the same time. CTRL ALT Delete
Select Other User.
Type in your student id number in both fields.
Select OK. Stop here.
Passwords Your user name and password are going to be used for your laptop, your account, and your Moodle account. Remember that your user name is always going to be your id number. Today you are going to enter your id number for your user name and then just once today, you are going to enter that id number for your password. It is just a temporary password used until you can change it.
Type in your new password and then type it again where it says “confirm password.”
Select OK. Stop Here.
You now have an account with the school. You will be able to others with school accounts. You will not be able to anyone outside of our school district. You will use your same user name (your student id number) and the password you created for the laptop. Your address will be
Double click on the Outlook icon.
Select Next.
Select Finish.
Select next.
This is what your “inbox” to your looks like. s from “Student Broadcast – Do not respond” are from the school’s tech. dept. and are okay to open and read.
Minimize Outlook by clicking in the upper left hand corner of the desktop.
When you open your from home, you will see this screen. Your user name at home is student\and your id no. Your password is the one that you created.
Moodle is a computer program that students use to interact with their teachers and classmates. You can turn your homework in online, read handouts that your teacher posts, or participate in an online discussion through Moodle. You will learn more about Moodle from your teacher. Today you are getting a Moodle account. You will use your same user name and password that you used earlier for your account.
Double click on the Moodle icon on your desktop.
Click on the word LOGIN.
1.Enter your student number (username). 2.Enter your password. (the password you created). 3.Stop here.
1.Type your first name. 2.Type your last name; surname means last name. 3.Type your address. 4.Type Munster.
Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on Update profile. You will get the above message. Do not click on continue.
Moodle is sending you a confirmation . This is part of the program’s security. Open your inbox by clicking on the Outlook icon in the bottom left corner.
1.Select the “Confirmation of update at School Town of Munster.” 2.Click on the link in the .
The link will take you back to Moodle. Click on Continue.
Scroll to the bottom of this page and click on “Update profile.”
Congratulations! You now have a Moodle account. Stop here.
In the upper right hand corner, click on “Logout.”
You are back to your desktop. When you see this screen, close your laptop lid. Closing the lid when not in use saves energy.
Closing the lid on your computer puts it to sleep. Your teacher will sometimes ask you to close your lid on the laptop. This saves energy. When you open the lid, the screen will be black. Press any key, run your finger across the touchpad, or gently press the start button in the upper right corner to “wake it up.”
You will see this screen again. Follow the directions by holding down on the CTRL + ALT + Delete keys and log in using your user name and password. Stop here.
When you are finished using your computer, your teacher will tell you to turn off your computer. This is not the same as shutting the lid. You always want to turn your computer off at the end of school and again at night when you charge your battery.
Always turn off your computer the right way! Click on the Windows start icon.
Click on “Shut down.” Stop Here.
Always pack your laptop in the case if you are carrying it away from your classroom. If you ride a bus to school, don’t throw it on the floor, but instead hold it next to you on the seat. If you ride a bike to school, make sure that you put the shoulder strap over your head and across your body. Make sure that you charge your battery at night.
