What is College Now? College Now is a FREE comprehensive collegiate experience: – Learning while doing: students perform college-level work while enrolled in high school – Survive and thrive: students develop a sense of the character and content of an undergraduate education – They learn what a college will expect from them and what they can expect from a college – Students develop their reading, writing, mathematical, and critical thinking skills— essential to college survival – FY —462 students FY : 1,449 students

S.T.E.M. Initiatives ERG 11: Introduction to Engineering Design ACS 10: Introduction to Automotive Technology ELC 15: Computer Applications in Technology EST 11: Introduction to Energy Technology Beginning Fall 2016: Math enrichment

Staving Off Summer 2015 EST th and 12 th graders on at least one math Regents Compass enrichment Activities

Biodiesel at BCC

Outcomes th graders were eligible to sit for the COMPASS 5 tested out of remediate outright Of the 5 that did not—tested out of MTH & success rate in EST 11

Math “in context” Math (which?) to measure X using ballistics X was implemented to look at biofuel—concentration of solutions, yields of biodiesel relative to the volume of oil we had at the start of the week X to calculate the amount of energy consumed in their lunches—how long it would take to burn it using a bike generator

College Now Biodiesel

Calculating X

Finished Biodiesel!
