Angola Angola is located in Southern Africa, bordering the South Atlantic ocean, between Namibia and Democratic Republic of the Congo Angola has an area of 1, sq km The climate of Angola is semiarid in the south and along coast to Luanda; north has cool, dry season and hot, rainy season The terrain of Angola is a narrow coastal plain which rises abruptly to a vast interior plateau

Aid in Angola Debt – external: $10.45 billion Economic aid – recipient: $383.5 million There is a shortage of food in Angola, and several countries made donations: Canada donated 1, 456 tonnes of peas, valued at $1 million Sweden donated 1,500 tonnes of maize valued at $1 million The USA donated various foodstuffs, valued at $13.7 million

Aid in Angola Most of Angola’s debt has been contracted on concessional terms. The effective rate of interest on medium- and long-term debt was only 4.9% in 1985, and the average loan maturity was about seven years. Out of a total of $3.25 billion in disbursed and undisbursed debt, $2.06 billion was owed to the Soviet Union for military purchases. This amount had an annual interest rate of 3% repayment over ten years, including a three year grace period.

Pakistan Pakistan is located in Southern Asia, bordering the Arabian Sea, between India on the east and Iran and Afghanistan on the west and China in the north The area of Pakistan is 803, 940 sq km The climate is mostly hot, dry desert; temperate in northwest; artic in north The terrain is flat Indus plain in east; mountains in north and northwest; Balochistan in west

Aid in Pakistan GDP – per capita: purchasing power parity - $2, 200 Debt – external: $ billion Economic aid – recipient: $2.4 billion In 1960 the World bank organised the Aid-to-Pakistan Consortium to facilitate coordination among the major providers of international assistance. The consortium held 92% of Pakistan’s outstanding disbursed dabt at the end of June The consortium’s members include the USA, Canada, Japan, Britain, Germany and France. Most aid comes from Saudi Arabia and other oil-producing Middle Eastern countries.

Aid in Pakistan The Asian Development Bank (ADB) will provide about $1 billion in concessional support for the rehabilitation and reconstruction of earthquake- hit Pakistan. About $100 million of savings from concessional loans from eight ongoing projects in Pakistan has been reallocated to the ongoing ADB-backed Decentralisation Support Program to support earthquake hit parts of Pakistan. A Pakistan Earthquake Fund has been established with an initial contribution of $80 million. In early December, a $300 million Earthquake Emergency Assistance project will be considered by ADB’s board of directors. This will focus on transport, power, health and education, and governance and institution building.
