Question Tags Why do we use a question tag? To get someone involved in our conversation. To encourage a response. To confirm information that you think is true.

Question Tags What is a question tag? A question tag is a special construction in English. It is a statement followed by a mini-question asking for agreement or confirmation. It is at the end of a sentence.

Question Tags How is it formed? We use the auxiliary verb + personal pronoun. The basic stucture is: Positive statementnegative tag John is studying music,isn't he? Negative statementpositive tag You don't like me,do you?

Question Tags With the verbs: to be, there to be, have got, can we use the same verb in the tag. They are tall, aren’t they? There was something wrong, wasn’t there? Jane has got two sisters, hasn’t she? Michael can play tennis well, can’t he?

Question Tags With the simple present tense we use do /does – don’t /doesn’t in the tag. With the simple past tense we use did /didn’t in the tag. Edward lives here, doesn’t he? They don’t smoke, do they? You found your English book,didn’t you? She didn’t go to the cinema yesterday, did she?

Question Tags Outstanding exceptions. 1st person singular of the verb “To be”. Imperative I’m late, aren’t I ? Let’s go, shall we? Post this letter for me, will you?
