Freshman Courses of Study  RHS has established Freshman Courses of Study to assist each student in making a smooth transition to high school while establishing a solid academic foundation  Each student and parent will select an academic program based on levels of achievement and past experiences as a student  Freshman Courses of Study are a crucial step in realizing our mission of preparing each student for college and career post-secondary options

Freshmen College-Readiness Courses of Study CP English 9 & Geography AVID 9 Freshman Seminar Positive Power

CP English 9 / Geography & World Cultures  A Pre-AP course designed for students seeking a rigorous course of study designed to prepare them for a strong Advanced Placement program  Builds critical academic skills while developing the work habits and work ethic necessary for success in future AP courses  A rotating block

Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) A college-readiness system designed for students in the “academic middle” who desire support to develop college-readiness skills and prepare for four-year university admission Writing & reading skills are developed along with collaboration, organization, note-taking skills, time management, goal setting & team building AVID students can concurrently enroll in CP English 9/Geography and World Cultures

Freshman Seminar  Designed to improve key college readiness skills while broadening students’ understanding of and preparation for post-secondary education options  Promotes and reinforces student achievement in all required coursework taken while in high school  Rotating block with Health and Safety

Next Steps 1.All parents/guardians MUST return to the HomeLink parent portal AFTER July 1 st in order to: a.Confirm your student’s contact and medical information b.Confirm that you have reviewed the “required document” section (i.e., emergency card, technology agreement, etc.) c.Students will not receive their class schedule on the first day of school until this process has been completed 2.Refer to the Blue Handout for helpful tips on how to transition to high school and upcoming dates and deadlines
