Classroom Rules Rules in my class are few. I believe that all children are different, and all actions and reactions are very personal in nature. Effective discipline involves a few universal principles, rather than a long list of specific rules. Situations are dealt with as they arise, with the focus on enabling the child to grow and learn from his or her actions.

Classroom Rules I allow students to remain in my classroom as long as they do not cause a problem for anyone else. If they cause a problem, I will ask them to fix it. If they cannot or will not fix the problem, I will do something. What I will do will depend on the unique situation.

Classroom Rules Celebrations Star Punches Treasure Box Positive notes and phone calls home Individual and whole class rewards (stickers, awards, special days, table points, bonus recess, eating lunch in the classroom, etc.)

All students have the right to: Learn Teach others Feel safe Make mistakes

Volunteering Many types of duties Room parents/parties Field trips Sign up Training and background checks August 27 – 8:30 August 28 – 3:30

Notes from the Front Office Do not send flowers or balloons to be delivered to school because they won’t be given to the student until after school If you need to call in an absence or leave a message for your child, please call after 8:45 and avoid the 8:15-8:45 crazy times Put names on lunch bags/boxes and clothing!

Other Important items… *Monday Folders *Homework *Snacks and Water bottles *Birthdays *Chair Pockets

Monday Folders and Homework Monday folders – read, review, and return Homework – 20 minutes of reading 4 times a week – Complete and return the weekly reading log each week. 5-10 minutes of math homework (see homework sheet in Monday folder each week). We will have the occasional writing, social studies, or science assignments to support our learning in these subjects. These will come home in the Monday folder.

Snacks and Water Bottles *Your child may bring a HEALTHY snack for our afternoon break. *Please have your child bring only one snack. It should be a snack that can be eaten in approximately 5-10 minutes. Remember that we are a Nut Free classroom. *Your child may bring a water bottle to class. It will need to contain only water (please do not send juice, etc.). We will place the water bottles on the counter to prevent spilling. *There is a water fountain for all students to use and many find that a water bottle is not necessary.

Birthdays *If you choose, you may send in a small, non-food treat or party favor to celebrate your child’s birthday. Please do not send in food items. *We will have a monthly birthday celebration for the class. *I cannot pass out birthday invitations in Monday folders. However, under certain circumstances, I will pass them at the end of the day. School policy for this states that all girls, all boys, or the whole class needs to be invited. Please do not ask your children to pass out invitations at school as this leads to hurt feelings.

I’m looking forward to a great year! Closing Thoughts Please sign the chart that lets me know how your child goes home in the afternoon. There are 4 options (Bus, IIE, Walkers, Valet in gym). Please sign up for a Get-To-Know-You Conference (tomorrow) Please bring completed forms for our meeting. Questions? I’m looking forward to a great year!
