 Americans: Demanded protection from Indian attacks.  British: Passed Stamp Act to pay for protection against Indian attacks.  Chaos arose when Sons of Liberty protested Stamp Act.  Stamp Act eventually cancelled.

 Boston Tea Party  Stamp Act of 1765  Intolerable Acts  Political freedoms jeopardized  Quebec Act

 1763: 9 years struggle ended  1765: Stamp Act  1766: No stamp act, but other taxes  1773: BTP, royal governor power increased at local leaders expense  1774: First continental congress met  1775: Second continental congress, radicals in charge, independence, Battle of Lexington and Concord  1776: Patriot took the offensive, invaded and then later retreated to Canada, Declaration of Independence  1781: British surrender, Articles of Confederation  1783: Revolution ended
