Community Pharmacy PRESENTED BY MYMUNA RASHED SAIMA ZAMAN ASHA GROUP 2

Community Pharmacy ORGANIZATION SITE SELECTION CAPITAL REQUIREMENT

Organization of Community Pharmacy Community pharmacists are the health professionals most accessible to the public. They supply medicines in accordance with a prescription or, when legally permitted, sell them without a prescription.

Types of Community Pharmacy o Sole Proprietorship o Partnership o Corporate

Sole proprietorship o Independent store o May consist of several stores owned by an individual or small group o Owning an independent pharmacy can be very rewarding. o Provides pharmacists with the opportunity to use their entrepreneurial skills.

Sole proprietorship o In addition to clinical and traditional pharmacy services, independent pharmacists typically get involved to a greater extent in merchandising, marketing, and other general management functions. o Good communication skills and an outgoing personality are valuable traits for pharmacists interested in pursuing independent community pharmacy.

Partnership enterprise It is a legal form of business operation between two or more individuals Share management and profile. Two types of partnership: 1. general and 2. limited 1.General partnership: the partners manage the company and assume the responsibilities 2.Limited partnership : one owned the business and the limited partner serve as investors

Partnership enterprise - Building The Community-Pharmacy Partnership The Community Development and Health Network (CDHN) has opened its latest round of funding for Building the Community-Pharmacy Partnership (BCPP). BCPP is about local communities and pharmacists working in partnership to identify and tackle local health needs using a community development approach, with a focus on addressing health inequalities. BCPP can offer support in developing your partnership, ideas and project. Level 1 This funding is for those interested in developing a local community-pharmacy partnership that will explore some locally identified issues with a group. Level 2 This funding is for those who have planned to work in partnership on a project that will address a range of issues. There will be clear aims and objectives and a plan of work that will respond to locally identified needs and the needs of the target group.

Partnership enterprise (example) Walgreens Boots Alliance was created through the combination of Walgreens and Alliance Boots in December This transaction brought together two leading companies with iconic brands, complementary geographic footprints, shared values and a heritage of trusted healthcare services through pharmaceutical wholesaling and community pharmacy care, dating back more than 100 years. The Company, with a presence in more than 25* countries, employs over 370,000* people and is the largest retail pharmacy, health and daily living destination in the USA and Europe.

Corporate enterprise o Large investment o Board of directors/trustees - o Managers/CEO - o Forms a brand value o High taxation o Difficult to dissolve

Site selection During the selection of a site for new pharmacy following factors should be considered: 1.A needy town or city should be selected. 2.Site of pharmacy in a particular city should be most suitable among those available. 3.Site of pharmacy should be convenient and accessible to the majority of consumers. For this purpose site location should be centre to population to be served. 4.Pharmacy site should be equipped with adequate free parking facility.

Site selection 5.If possible then site should be in neighborhood of a community shopping centre for the convenience and accessibility of the consumers. 6.An island type of location, where the pharmacy sites by itself in a main traffic artery and surrounded by adequate parking facility, should be preferred. 7.Usually, a bargain location in terms of rent proves to be a liability rather than an asset in.

Capital requirement o Pharmaceutical market is the growing industry, it has been estimated that the total turnover of pharmaceutical market will reach US$1.3 trillion by 2020 (White et al., 2010). o The community pharmacy is a ground level unit through which the pharmacy services are provided.

Capital requirement o Cost and expenditure in establishment of a community pharmacy retail shop depends on location(near hospital, nursing home, residential areas, flow of people),size of the pharmacy, types of medicines etc. o The initial investment cost includes mainly furniture cost, medicine cost, and pharmacy registration cost. o The furniture cost would be around 16% after establishment.

Example Office space : In Scottsdale, Arizona, for instance, modern retail space rents for around $20 per square foot. Houston, meanwhile, has rents around $15 per square foot. Rite Aid pharmacies are 880 square feet, which means that an 880 square foot spot in Scottsdale will cost $17,600 per month, and the same space in Houston will cost $13,200 per month, or $158,400 per year.
