Is Singing Inadequate to Praise God? “It's crazy, if you think about it. The God of the universe -the Creator of nitrogen and pine needles, galaxies and E-minor, loves us with a radical, unconditional, self-sacrificing love. And what is our typical response? We go to church, sing songs, and try not to cuss.” ~ Francis Chan Are we to class going to church, singing songs, and pure speech as unworthy responses to God’s greatness?

God Desires Singing as Worship We are commanded to sing to the Lord! (Ephesians 5:19; Colossians 3:16) We are told what to sing (Ephesians 5:19; Colossians 3:16) We are given examples of Christians singing (Acts 16:25; 1 Cor. 14:15, 26; James 5:13)

In the New Testament, God has not Expressed a Desire for Instruments in Worship There is no New Testament command or example for Christians to use instruments in worship. God knows how to specify what He wants! (Psalm 150:3-5; 33:2; 149:3; 47:1; 2 Chronicles 29:25)

Reasons offered to try to justify Instrumental Music The Bible doesn’t say “not to” use it! –Silence Prohibits! Remember Nadab & Abihu, Cain & Abel (Leviticus 10:1-2; Genesis 4:3-7) David used instruments! –David also offered animal sacrifices! –David lived under the Old Testament Law which was nailed to the cross (Col. 2:14; Gal. 5:4; 2:21) The Greek word “psallo” means to play. –The instrument to be played is the heart! (Eph 5:19)
