Between Sunda and Java, Indonesia

Krakatau is a composite volcano in addition composite volcanoes, also called strato volcanoes, are formed by alternating layers of lava and rock fragments. This is the reason they are called composite.

In 1883 it was known to be one of the worst eruptions in the world. It was considerd to be the loudest sound in modern history heard almost 3000 miles away.

According to official records 165 villages and towns were destroyed near Krakatoa, and 132 were seriously damaged. At least 21,007 (official toll) people died, and many thousands were injured, mostly from the tsunamis that followed the explosion. A picture of the eruption in 1883.

Another fact is, mount krakatoa (in indonisia) is erupting this very minute. That makes it active which means it could erupt at any time

Mount Krakatoa is 813 metres tall which is the same as 2,667 feet !. It is also the same width as the elevation before.

The island volcano of krakatoa in indonisia exploded with devastating fury on August 26–27, 1883, blowing its underground magma chamber partly empty so that much overlying land and seabed collapsed into it. A series of large tsunami waves was generated from the collapse, some reaching a height of over 40 meters above sea level. Tsunami waves were observed throughout the indian oceon the pacific oceon and even as far away as the American West Coast, andsouth america. On the facing coasts of java and sumatra the sea flood went many miles inland and caused such vast loss of lifethat one area was never resettled but reverted to the jungle and is now the kulan nature reserve.
