Investigate and evaluate the potential benefits of iTunes U to the FE and skills sectors in Wales, particularly around its application for CPD and ITT.

Timeline Jan-Mar 2013 Investigate Wales’ colleges’ approach to OER, iTunes U, MOOCs and other pertinent issues Investigate the new Hwb and Hwb+ platforms and their supporting iTunes U site (Education Wales) Survey colleges to identify potential opportunities for benefits from project outcomes Consult with relevant network groups (T&L, ITSysMan, WLTF, Staff Development... ) about their issues and possibly opportunities for such a platform

Timeline Mar-Apr 2013 Apply to Apple for iTunes U site Develop a content strategy for ColegauCymru’s iTunes U site (if approved) Identify and source resources to be hosted upon the site in order to test and evaluate the platform for Wales’ Colleges Visit colleges interested in iTunes U and assist in the development of a strategy

Timeline Apr-Jun 2013 Begin building iTunes U site Gather available resources (assets) Produce content if necessary – video, audio or ebook (ibook or pdf) Upload content onto site and assess support resources necessary for its use

The Outside World - Copyright UK copyright law is changing in October 2013 to open up access for educational use “The existing exception for fair dealing in relation to education will be expanded to allow teachers to use copyright works for non-commercial teaching purposes”

Where we are now Hwb & Education Wales launched on 12/12/12 (at 12:12) Colleges increasingly engaging with OER and iTunes U Deeside iTunes U site has been launched, 2 others in development Apple have approved our iTunes U site application Access granted last week (2/6/13) Some ‘assets’ aimed at CPD and ITT already exist with full permission;

Language Awareness Materials Bilingual Director identified opportunity to utilise iTunes U to disseminate support resources for Bilingual Champions Many resources exist, although are obsolete or unavailable due to copyright WG/DfES commissioned HQ video resources for ‘education sector’ (schools) Still unclear whether FE will get access, on DVD or iTunes U (maybe Learning Wales or Hwb) Learndirect commissioning e-learning materials around Agored unit (aimed at staff and students) ColegauCymru commissioning of new resources on hold until picture is clear
