Objective Transportation Assets Strategic Intermodal/International Points Next Steps & Discussion Critical Issues for Ohio

“As we aim to grow Ohio’s economy through increased exports... transportation and logistics issues will increasingly be on our radar along with the businesses we serve.”

 Panama Canal Expansion 2014 and Suez Canal offers shortest routes to US Population Centers

 Increases in freight demand ◦ Double stacking rail routes (Heartland Corridor/National Gateway) – connections to east coast ports ◦ More lanes on the highway system ◦ Longer runways for larger cargo planes ◦ Post-Panamax ships carrying more containers per ship ◦ National initiatives to double US exports in the next 5 years  What else can we leverage?

 Two-thirds of Ohio’s industry is within 50 miles of a port  Surrounded by water on three sides, Ohio is a maritime state with 716 miles of navigable waters  8 th in the nation for total water tonnage moved ◦ 2008 cargo activity at the Port of Cleveland generated $1.4 billion in economic value ◦ Annually, more tonnage is moved on the Ohio River than passes through the Panama Canal

 4,526 miles of Class 1 rail  CSX National Gateway Project ◦ Direct connection to Suez Canal: Europe, Middle East, Africa, Asia  NS Heartland Corridor ◦ Direct connection to Panama Canal: South America, China, India, and Southeast Asia  Connect to international ports in less time

 With easy access to eight major interstate routes, Ohio is America’s intersection  4th largest interstate highway system in nation  60% of all U.S and Canadian households live within 600 miles of Ohio (a one day’s drive)

 4th in the nation for number of airports ◦ 84 of 88 Ohio counties are served by publicly owned airports  90% of Ohio’s population is within a 30 minute drive of an airport able to land a business aircraft  More air cargo facilities than any other state

 Projected to handle 630,000 containers and trailers annually  Triple the market access potential for the Ports of Baltimore, Hampton Roads and Wilmington  Shortens trip times and improves reliability, allowing companies to reduce inventories and associated costs

 5 campuses provide tenants access to 3 major transportation options; road, rail, and air  4 existing trans-ocean air routes with 9 more planned  40M ft 2 global logistics campus ◦ 29M ft 2 future development space  Ability to obtain FTZ status

 Intermodal facility connecting rail, truck, and barge facilities  "Lake-to-River Highway” provides 4-lane connection between Lake Erie and the Ohio River  Largest port on Ohio River – 15M tons of cargo handled per year  $32M in recent improvements to lift capacity, docking, and conveyance systems

 5501: Special oversize and overweight permits for sealed containerized loads for Export.  Permits for shipments of International sealed containers.  The sealed containers must have an Ohio origin and be transported to an approved intermodal facility in Ohio.  The container must be bound for an international destination.  Vehicle weight (GVW) can not exceed 94,000 lbs.  New permit type

 State of Ohio Logistics & Distribution $3,025,500  Improve rail efficiency  Increase competition between CSX and NS  Improve truck access onto the Port by constructing a new road, which will relocate truck traffic away from the main operation creating a safer environment in the general cargo facility. Port of Cleveland generates significant impacts in the local and regional Northeast Ohio area. More than 10,800 jobs and $66.9 million in state and local tax receipts annually
