Factors that Encourage Settlement These physical features affect where people settle:  Climate  Soil  Water  Landforms

When Native Americans began to farm, they settled in areas where the soil was rich. Later, settlers moved to places where there was farmland and fresh water People needed to live near transportation routes such as rivers
