Thailand: Country Profile Thailand is a country at the center of the Indochina peninsula in Southeast Asia. Capital city: Bangkok Its land boundaries :  to the north by Myanmar and Laos,  to the east, northeast by Laos and Cambodia,  to the south by the Gulf of Thailand and Malaysia, and  to the west by the Andaman Sea and the southern extremity of Myanmar. Its maritime boundaries: include Vietnam in the Gulf of Thailand to the southeast and Indonesia and India on the Andaman Sea to the southwest.

National Laws and Regulations of the National Regulatory Authority Regulatory framework - Regulatory authority(s) The Atomic Energy for Peace Act 1961 established Thai Atomic Energy Commission for Peace (Thai AEC). The AEC is the regulatory authority of Thailand, issuing licenses and regulating facilities and activities on radiation and nuclear issues. The OAP plays in a role as the secretariat of the AEC The Secretary-General of OAP is the secretary of the Commission.

National Laws and Regulations of the National Regulatory Authority Licensing Process The licensing process of nuclear installations is not specified in the main law, the 1961 Act. Main National Laws and Regulations in Nuclear Power The OAP is in a process of drafting a new Atomic Energy Act. The new act will base upon the IAEA Handbook of Nuclear Law in order to reflect all stages of the licensing process and to comply with necessary international legal instruments. The effective laws and regulations at the moment are as follows. Atomic Energy for Peace Act (1961); Ministerial Regulations (2007) prescribing the conditions, procedures for license application and implementation in connection with special nuclear materials, source materials, by-products or atomic energy; Ordinance, Guidance and Procedures issued by OAP

Current Status of Nuclear Power Plant Programme Thailand’s Power Development Plan (PDP 2007) Thailand will own first NPP in 2020, followed by second one in Two of them will be in the capacity of 1,000 MWe to 1,350 MWe range. The specification of the next two NPPs will be decided later in the project. However, in the wake of Fukushima accident in March of 2011, the cabinet decided to postpone the plan for 3 years, and possibly will postpone for another 3 years.

** Office of Atoms for Peace **  Main responsibilities of OAP  Establish rules, regulations and measure for the control and regulation of the use of nuclear energy and waste management;  To control and regulate peaceful uses of nuclear energy and nuclear facilities through its BRSR and BNSR. Control functions (inspections) in general are performed through competent officials appointed by the Minister who takes charge and control of the execution of the Act;  Cooperate for nuclear affairs and foreign relations;

Office of Atoms for Peace  Mission To formulate policies and strategic plans on the development and utilization of atomic energy, as well as to coordinate the plans and hence move towards realistic practice To perform R&D to promote safe and extensive utilization of Nuclear energy; to transfer nuclear technology and provide capacity for the useful utilization of nuclear technology for national development in medicine, agriculture and industry To regulate and ensure safe utilization of nuclear energy To be a center for technical cooperation and other activities associate with peaceful application of nuclear energy, in collaboration with local and international organizations

MY ASSIGNMENT TASK AND ACTIVITY DURING THE TIME OF FELLOWSHIP Assignment Tasks: Review on the RCA website and comment on the RCA promotional video Contact with the conference organizers and the visit the website to keep update information on the upcoming 2015 International and National conferences Finding the related pictures of the RCA projects activities to add into the RCA promotional VDOCheck and update on the website address of the national homepages of the RCA Government PartiesMaking the average number of daily visitors of the 2014 on the RCARO websiteSearching possible events to be held in 2016 that are related to nuclear science and technology Make a list of ID & PW list in an excel sheet, and check the accessible of all IDs and PWs are working for the NRs, UNDP Electron Beam and UNDP Nuclear Medicine experts and the IAEA representatives. Preparing the name tags of the participants of the 2 nd Working Group Meeting on the RCARO’s Future Role in Jeju Review the document particularly on the figure 1 and table 1 for the correction of the Working paper on Review and Measures to Improve the RCA Information Service

MY ASSIGNMENT TASK AND ACTIVITY DURING THE TIME OF FELLOWSHIP Activities: Participated in the Review on the RCA Web Service and Recommendation for better Access System Workshop, December 2014 in Muju Participated in the 2 nd Working Group Meeting on the RCARO’s Future Role, January 2015 in Jeju

Recommendations Adding more activities from the Member states to increase the awareness of the RCARO to public For the Fellowship Program, should be arranged for the facility visit at the related institutes for more understanding and expand knowledge on the peaceful use of nuclear applications related to the RCA projects and the development on nuclear science and technology in Korea.
