 According to the U.S. Department of Education the purpose of Title 1 funding, “is to ensure that all children have a fair, equal, and significant opportunity to obtain a high quality education and reach, at minimum, proficiency on challenging state academic achievement assessments”. U.S. Department of Education

 School wide Title 1 Programs serve all students in a school. They can be developed at schools in which at least 40 percent of children meet certain income guidelines  Targeted Assistance programs help ensure that eligible children receive assistance to meet performance standards. Strategies may include extended-day or extended-year programs.

 Known as The BJPC The Parental Information and Resource Center (PIRC) program is funded by the US Department of Education, Office of Innovation and Improvement, established to provide training, information, and support to parents and individuals who work with local parents, districts, and schools that receive Title I.A funds. PIRCs provide both regional and statewide services and disseminate information to parents on a statewide basis.

 The compact outlines the strategies and means by which the Gateway Middle students, parents, staff, and community will share responsibility for improved academic achievement. Gateway middle school, family and students participating in Title I programs and services agree to the following guidelines, in alignment with the goals set by the federal and state government:

 Participation in parent/teacher conference days scheduled throughout the school year.  Letters and notes to and from home  Telephone conversations between parents and teachers  Classroom helpers/aides  Activities for families  Tutoring  Mentoring

 Encourage students to be actively involved in their education.  Jointly developed with parental participations to meet the No child left Behind Act as well as to combined the needs of parents, students, and schools.  Each title 1 school has a unique parental plan that is supplement to the district policy.
