IMPACT SAMR Cover Sheet Task OverviewLearning Objective(s)Suggested Technology Students will create piecewise functions and create a Quizlet study guide. Graph square root, cube root, and piecewise-defined functions, including step functions and absolute value function. Create a Quizlet study guide for piecewise functions and their graphs. Laptop Quizlet Desmos Snipping Tool Students will use a website to graph inverses of functions they have already graphed. They will then compare and contrast the graphs of the functions and their inverses. Graph square root, cube root, and piecewise-defined functions, including step functions and absolute value function. Compare and contrast the graphs of functions and their inverses. Laptop WolframAlpha website Given a different group’s worksheet they created on Piecewise Functions, use Desmos to graph, and then sketch, each problem. Graph square root, cube root, and piecewise-defined functions, including step functions and absolute value function. Analyze student work. Calculator Laptop Desmos.com In groups of three, work Piecewise Functions Practice #2 and #3 and check your answers/graphs with each other’s. Each group will create a three question worksheet. Piecewise Functions (Alg 2. – Concept Byte: 2-4) 1.Working in your group, each member will graph the problems on Piecewise Function Practice #1. Check your graphs against each other’s. Then, as a group, make up two of your own problems (you may want to start by making the graph). Using Microsoft Word, type your problems. Use the internet to find the size/type of graphs that will need to be included. Use the snipping tool to “cut and paste” the graphs into your Word document. 2. Working in your group, each member will work the word problems on Piecewise Function Practice #2. Check your answers and graphs against each other’s. Then, as a group, make up your own word problem. Using the same Word document you just created/started in part 1, type up your group’s word problem. Use the internet to find the size/type of graphs that will need to be included. Use the snipping tool to “cut and paste” the graphs into your Word document. 3.When your group has finished making their three question worksheet, save it to one of your h-drives. In the file name, include each member’s last name and your class period. Example: Smith_Harris_Williams_2 4. me your worksheet. In groups of three, work Piecewise Functions Practice #2 and #3 and check your answers/graphs with each other’s. Each group will create a three question worksheet. This task uses: Provided worksheets Calculator Laptop Microsoft Word Learning Objective(s): Graph square root, cube root, and piecewise-defined functions, including step functions and absolute value function. Create a math worksheet. S SUBSTITUTION Technology acts a direct substitute, with no functional improvement

Piecewise Functions (Alg 2. – Concept Byte: 2-4) 1.Each group will obtain a different group’s worksheet on Piecewise Functions that was created yesterday in class. 2.Using a laptop, go to desmos.com. 3.Enter the given information for the first problem on the worksheet. Remember to select a new “box” for each equation in the function. 4.On your graph paper, sketch the graph that is displayed on Desmos. 5.As a group, analyze the graph and discuss whether the problem is really a piecewise function. If it is not, write a sentence of two explaining why it is not. 6.Repeat steps 3-5 for the remaining two problems. Given a different group’s worksheet they created on Piecewise Functions, use Desmos to graph, and then sketch, each problem. This task uses: Student created worksheets from yesterday’s activity Graph paper Calculator Laptop Desmos.com Learning Objective(s): Graph square root, cube root, and piecewise-defined functions, including step functions and absolute value function. Analyze student work. A AUGMENTATION Technology acts as a direct tool for substitution with some functional improvement.

Piecewise Functions (Alg 2. – Concept Byte: 2-4) 1.Each group member will need the worksheet Piecewise Function Practice #3. 2.Each member will graph the piecewise function for #1 on their paper. When everyone is finished with #1, compare your graphs. Make any necessary changes. 3.One group member will google “inverse function calculator.” Select the first website. This should be the WolframAlpha site. (We have not studied inverse functions, yet. This is why you are using a website to find them.) 4.One group member will type in the first function in the first problem. The website will not only show you the inverse function, but also the graph. Using a different colored writing utensil, graph the inverse on your paper. Then show the other group members so they can copy the graph in a different color from the original function. 5.Now type in the second function in the first problem, and repeat the process from #4. 6.Switch group members on the computer, and repeat steps 2, 4 and 5 for the remainder of the worksheet. 7.When all problems are complete. Group members will compare and contrast the original functions and their inverses. Students will use a website to graph inverses of functions they have already graphed. They will then compare and contrast the graphs of the functions and their inverses. This task uses: Provided worksheets Laptop WolframAlpha website Learning Objective(s): Graph square root, cube root, and piecewise-defined functions, including step functions and absolute value function. Compare and contrast the graphs of functions and their inverses. M MODIFICATION Technology allows for significant task redesign.

Piecewise Functions (Alg 2. – Concept Byte: 2-4) 1.Each group member will need graph paper. 2.Each member will create two piecewise functions. Make sure you graph them on your graph paper to verify that your functions make ‘sense.’ 3.Switch papers with another group member and check each other’s work. 4.Once all members have created their two problems, graphed them, and had a fellow group member check their work, then the group will create a study guide. 5.Type in the URL on the front board. This will bring you to Quizlet where you will be automatically logged in and ready to make a study guide. 6.Type in one of your piecewise functions. 7.In another tab, open Desmos. Type in one of your piecewise functions. When you are finished, use the snipping tool to copy the graph in Quizlet for the “answer” to the function you just typed in. 8.Repeat steps 6 and 7 until you have typed in all the functions for your group. 9.Post your quiz. Make sure to name your study guide using all group members initials and your class hour. Students will create piecewise functions and create a Quizlet study guide. This task uses: Graph paper Laptop Quizlet Desmos Snipping Tool Learning Objective(s): Graph square root, cube root, and piecewise-defined functions, including step functions and absolute value function. Create a Quizlet study guide for piecewise functions and their graphs. R REDEFINITION Technology allows for the creation of new tasks that were previously not conceivable.
