AIM: How has the EUROPEAN UNION and NAFTA transformed Europe and the U.S. economically?

How would life be different for U.S. citizens if New York, Chicago, California, Pennsylvania, Massachusets, were their own countries instead of states?”Describe the advantages of sharing a common currency?

I. THE EUROPEAN UNION a Intergovernmental & super-national union of 25 democratic countries. b. Common single market, single currency (the euro), common trade policy, common Foreign and Security Policy.

c. Set up internal borders which allows mobility for European Union citizens.

II. European Common Market a. Designed to help the economy of Europe. b. Prevention of future war by integrating its members together.

III. The European Parliament a. Elected officials that represents the interests of the citizens. b. Elections are held every five years. c. Every European Union citizen is entitled to vote. d. The Parliament governs more than 455 million people.

IV. North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) a. The objectives of the trade agreement between Canada, the United States and Mexico include: 1. eliminate barriers and promote movement of goods and services across borders. 2- promote conditions of fair competition in the free trade area. 3- increase substantially investment opportunities in their territories.
