Colorado Academic Standards Colorado English Language Proficiency (CELP) Standards There are now five English language development standards: Standard 1: ELLs communicate for SOCIAL AND INSTRUCTIONAL purposes within the school setting. Standard 2: ELLs communicate information, ideas, and concepts necessary for academic success in the content area of LANGUAGE ARTS. Standard 3: ELLs communicate information, ideas, and concepts necessary for academic success in the content area of MATHEMATICS. Standard 4: ELLs communicate information, ideas, and concepts necessary for academic success in the content area of SCIENCE. Standard 5: ELLs communicate information, ideas, and concepts necessary for academic success in the content area of SOCIAL STUDIES.
Colorado Academic Standards CELP Standards: Headline 1 CELP Standards link language learning to academic content (Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies) Expand upon social and instructional language to explicitly include academic language standards in the content of language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies. Provide students access to concepts and skills and the support needed to meaningfully engage with academic learning while they are developing English language skills. Serve as a bridge between the Colorado Academic Standards (CAS) and the Colorado English Language Proficiency (CELP) Standards.

Are a resource to support all five English language proficiency standards Are a Tool for collaborative instructional planning.
Colorado Academic Standards CELP Standards : Headline 4 Performance Definitions are the general characteristics of English learners from P-12 for each language proficiency level. Performance Definitions: Provide criteria for each of the six levels of English language proficiency in the CELP Standards. Include criteria of Linguistic Complexity, Vocabulary Usage, and Language Control.
Colorado Academic Standards CELP Standards : Headline 5 Reading and Writing Rubrics are scoring guides in which a uniform set of criteria are used to interpret student work. The Reading and Writing Rubrics: Correspond to the categories or components of the Performance Definitions. Are intended to be used by teachers on a formative basis to interpret English learners production in English on classroom or program level tasks.
