Alachua County Public Schools Teacher Leader Work

Teacher Leaders K-2, 3-5, 6-8, 9-12 ELA Mathematics Science Social Studies

Summer Work Scope and Sequence Assessment Additional work as defined by the teacher leaders of each subject

Scope and Sequence An outline of the standards/benchmarks to be taught for each course/grade level Drives AIMS assessments

Alachua Instructional Monitoring System (AIMS) Quarterly District-wide assessments intended to measure mastery of the material covered in the previous units of study. Aligned with the standards/benchmarks taught

Assessed Courses/Grade Levels ELAGrades K-10 MATHEMATICSGrades K-8 Algebra 1 Algebra 2 Geometry

Assessed Courses/Grade Levels SCIENCEGrades 3-8 Biology SOCIAL STUDIESCivics US History (High School)

What is AIMS? Set of district-wide assessments that: Are standards-based Occur approximately quarterly Monitor student progress through curriculum Measure mastery on standards taught Are intended to be used instructionally at the school level Were developed in partnership with teacher leaders

What is AIMS NOT? Evaluative Handed down from the district Static

The AIMS Assessment Cycle Planning Instruction Assessment Data Analysis

Assessment and Data Analysis Prior to Assessment Window Teacher Receives Test Booklets and Pre-Identified Bubble Sheets Booklets printed off-site and delivered to schools Bubble Sheets printed on-site During Assessment Window Students take the assessment during one class period

Assessment and Data Analysis After Test Window Bubble Sheets are scanned on site Scores and Reports are immediately available after scanning Dashboards updated the following day

Data Analysis Teachers and Administrators have access to all relevant data

Other Statistical work throughout the year at the district level Predictive values TBD

K-2 Science K-2 will NOT have quarterly AIMS assessments in Science Options for assessment: National Geographic chapter and unit tests Inquiry Rubrics Science Notebooks Project-Based Learning Rubrics Body of Knowledge sequence will remain Life, Earth, Physical WHY? The complexity of the benchmarks increase in that order The curriculum is lexiled in that order to provide for greater opportunity for ELA/Science Integratio n

K-2 Continued Scope and Sequence is provided to guide pacing of instruction 3rd Grade Benchmarks have been moved to 2nd grade: SC.3.N.1.1: Raise questions about the natural world, investigate them individually and in teams through free exploration and systematic investigations, and generate appropriate explanations based on those explorations. SC.3.N.1.3: Explain that science does not always follow a rigidly defined method ("the scientific method") but that science does involve the use of observations and empirical evidence. SC.3.N.1.5: Recognize and explain that authentic scientific investigation frequently does not parallel the steps of "the scientific method."

3-5 Science 3-5 will have quarterly AIMS assessments in Science Other Options for assessment: National Geographic chapter and unit tests Inquiry Rubrics Science Notebooks Project-Based Learning Rubrics

3-5 Science Continued Body of Knowledge sequence has changed: Physical Science will be taught first, followed by Earth, then Life WHY? Physical Science lends itself to the project-based/inquiry learning which will lay a stronger foundation for the Nature of Science Benchmarks Physical Science aligns with the district Robotics initiative which is in the Fall

3-5 Science Continued In an effort to balance the instruction of Science at Grades 3-5, there has been a shift of Benchmarks. The following changes will begin in : 3rd Grade will now teach and assess: (resources provided in curriculum map) 4th Grade Energy and Sound: SC.4.P.10.1; SC.4.P.10.2, SC.4.P th Grade Heat: SC.4.P.11.1, SC.4.P th Grade Sun, Moon and Stars SC.4.E.5.1 SC.4.E.5.3

3-5 Science Continued 4th Grade will now teach and assess: (resources provided in curriculum map) SC.5.P.8.1(Annually Assessed Benchmark) Compare & contrast the basic properties of solids, liquids, & gases, such as mass, volume, color, texture, & temperature. SC.5.P.10.2 (Annually Assessed Benchmark) Investigate and explain that energy has the ability to cause motion or create change.

3-5 Science Continued 5th grade will now teach and assess: (A unit will be provided prior to instruction) SC.6.N.1.1; SC.6.N.1.2; SC.6.N.1.3 via SC.6.E.7.5 Explain how energy provided by the sun influences global patterns of atmospheric movement and the temperature differences between air, water, and land. High SC.6.E.7.1 Differentiate among radiation, conduction, and convection, the three mechanisms by which heat is transferred through Earth's system. Moderate

3-5 Science Continued AIMS Assessment windows for Science: 3rd Grade Oct. 5 - Oct. 9 Dec Dec.18 Mar Mar. 18 May 23 - May 27 4th Grade Oct Oct. 19 Dec Dec. 18 Mar Mar. 18 May 23 - May 27 5th Grade Oct Oct. 23 Feb. 1 - Feb. 5 Mar Mar. 18 May 31- June 3

GRADES 6-8 Science Nature of Science (NOS) benchmarks will be integrated into content areas. Nature of science is scientific practice and found woven throughout the content and not assessed in isolation. Like FCAT Science, AIMS will include the use of 4-function calculator, if necessary. Test blueprints were weighted based on Annually Assessed (AA) as well as Also Assessed benchmarks. Scope and sequence allows time for both testing, remediation and enrichment during the testing window. Allow time for data analysis to determine which benchmarks to be remediated.

GRADES 6-8 Science Continued Testing Windows Quarter 1Quarter 2Quarter 3Quarter 4 6 Nov. 2 - Nov. 5Jan Jan. 22Mar Mar. 18May 31 - June 3 7 Nov. 9 - Nov. 13Jan Jan. 22Mar Mar. 18May 23 - May 27 8 Oct Oct. 23Dec. 7 - Dec. 11Mar. 7 - Mar. 11May 31 - June 3
