Regulatory framework for the Fisheries Resources management is well established under DFAR Fish quality and safety regulations are well in place for the export fish products (HACCP,GMP and SSOP mandatory requirements for fish products processing establishments) As the CA DFAR recognizes its well established network of 15 coastal district offices and 148 Fishery Inspectors Divisions at 22 fishery harbours and landing sites in addition to the Headquarters in Colombo BIA for the implementation of resource management activities. Strength
Logbook is not well practice for small boats(OFRP) at landing site level. Funding and technology is not available to fulfill the requirements to improve traceability practices for small boats. Weaknesses
Continues awareness creation on new fishery management regulations and the new technology on fish harvest, handling and food safety aspects is a timely very important. Data collection, analysis and recording methods should be developed and there must be the facility to enter data, monitor evaluate online/ electronicaly at every Fishery inspector level to maximize the efficiency and the accuracy.
