Unit 1 Vocabulary 1. Job—work that people do for pay that can lead to a career. 2. Career—a series of related jobs built on a foundation of interest, knowledge, training, and experience. 3. Lifestyle—the way you used your time, energy, and resources.

4. Economy—the ways in which a group produces, distributes, and consumes its goods. 5. Global economy—the ways in which the world’s economies are linked. 6. Job market—the demand for particular jobs in each country. 7. Team—an organized group that sets goals, makes decisions, and implements actions within a company.

8. Outsourcing—when businesses hire other companies or individuals to produce their services or goods. 9. Telecommute—working from home using a fax and computer. 10. Decision-Making Process—a logical series of steps to identify and evaluate possibilities and to arrive at a good choice.

11. Values—the principles that you want to live by and the beliefs that really matter to you. 12. Responsibility—fulfilling obligations in a depend- able and trustworthy way. 13. Relationships—you value your family and friends. 14. Compassion—caring deeply about people and their well-being. 15. Courage—the ability to conquer fear or despair. 16. Achievement—wanting to succeed in whatever you do. 17. Recognition—wanting other people to appreciate and respect your accomplishments.
