MONEYPOINT STATION

PRODUCTION There are many power stations In Ireland but Moneypoint is the one that produces the most with producing over 25% of Irelands electricity. A normal light bulb can use 40 watts but Moneypoint can generate 915 Million watts.

CONSTRUCTION Moneypoint Power Station was built in 1987 and took 8 years to build. The main reason the Power Station is beside the river Shannon is so big ships can deliver massive amounts of coal. The total cost of the build was a staggering amount of just over £700m.

COAL TRANSPORT To make electricity, Moneypoint need coal. Big ships each carrying approximately 152,000 tonnes of coal arrive each month. Most of this coal comes from places like South America, South Africa, Indonesia and Columbia. The coal gets picked up by crane buckets. Each bucket can hold about 17 tonnes

How to make electricity from coal

WAYS OF TRANSPORT ON SITE In Moneypoint they use bikes, cars & vans to go around site. Some vans run on diesel and others run on bio-diesel witch is environmentally friendly.

QUESTIONS Where is Moneypoint built and how much did it cost ??? Kilrush Co Clare & 700m What is the main reason Moneypoint is build beside the river Shannon ??? So big ships can deliver coal Approximately how many tonnes of coal is delivered each month ??? 152,000 tonnes

QUESTIONS What do the workers use in Moneypoint to go around the site ??? Cars, vans and bikes How long did it take to construct Moneypoint ??? 8 years

RECYCLING In 2009 Moneypoint installed a waste recycle centre. In 2010 an amazing 90% of waste produced on site was recycled.

Thanks for watching !!!!!!!!!!!
