Study on CORBA and EPICS based Control System Framework for Large Astronomical Telescopes Jian Wang Modern Physics Department, University of Science and Technology of China State Key Laboratory of Technologies of Particle Detection and Electronics, Hefei, Anhui, Lijiang, 22 nd July, 2014

Large Sky Area Multi-Object Fiber Spectroscopic Telescope ( LAMOST ) One of National Large-Scale Scientific Projects Its 1.75m focal plane corresponding to the 5 o field of view can accommodate several thousands of optical fibers

FAST(The Five-Hundred-Meter Aperture Spherical Radio Telescope) FAST is an Arecibo-type antenna with three outstanding aspects: – the karst depression used as the site; – the active main reflector; – the light-weight feed cabin driven by cables and servomechanism plus a parallel robot as a secondary adjustable system to move with high precision.

Active Reflector System The most prominent of active reflector is that the supporting structure enables the surface formation of a paraboloid from a sphere through real time active control. It has 2300 nodes and 4600 panels and needs a real time control system that is of high effectiveness to control the active reflector.

Architecture of EPICS-based ARS control system

Master Control Unit of ARS control system ARS Agent – ARS agent is the communication interface of CCS and ARS MCU using CORBA protocol. – It is responsible for receiving the observing command from CCS, and also providing interface for feedback command execution information ARS Log interface – Every information level is designed with a circular buffer for local store. ARS alarm interface – ARS alarm component is based on CA lib of EPICS where any alarm information will be caught by the PVs of IOC.
