ECO-COUNCIL Everything You Need To Know About Greenbank Eco We presented an assembly explaining all about Greenbank Eco. We explained how Greenbank are working towards renewing their Green Flag Award. Have a look at our fantastic presentation here. Produced by Year Six Eco Councillors.

Eco Notice Board The Eco Notice Board shows you everything eco friendly. It shows you the last meeting and what happens, it shows you all the things that are recyclable and many more things. Also we have an Eco Code which is an acrostic poem of the word Greenbank.

Smiley Faces Smiley faces are used when somebody leaves the room and turns the light off, when the windows are open and the radiators are off and finally when all the electronics are turned off when you are not using them. If you do not do these you will receive a sad face. Whichever class has the most smiley faces will receive the Eco Cup in assembly each Friday. At the end of each term a big cup is awarded to the winning class.

The Eco Garden The Eco Garden is the place where all the fruit and vegetables are grown. There is also a green house where the plants that need a hotter climate are grown, for example: tomatoes and sweetcorn. When the food is ready, Chef Simon (one of our cooks) goes out and picks them so we can eat them at lunch.

The Bird Hide The Bird Hide is a place where you go with your class or by yourself to observe different types of birds such as magpies and blackbirds. There is a station with a book on which you can write down your sightings and look up the birds you see. We also have nesting boxes where we can watch the chicks on a webcam.

Captain Wasteless Captain Wasteless is a thing that encourages us to waste less food. The way it works is you are given a meal and you have to try and eat it all and the class with the least amount of waste in their class bucket gets a healthy prize to eat.

The Recycling Bins The recycling bins are located just outside the office back door. As you can also see there are a couple of posters; they were made by children because there was a competition held to see who could design the best eco poster. Each class has got its own paper bin in the classroom.

Water We have taps that turn themselves off and saver flush bags in the toilets to save water. The Eco Councillors read the water meter to check how much water we are using. We also have a big water tank that collects rain water for the Eco Garden.

Transport We try to encourage people to walk and cycle to school instead of using cars. The upper juniors learn Bikeability and we have a covered bike park. Whenever we get the chance, we walk to places in our Hi Vis jackets.

Litter We have many bins and signs to encourage children not to throw litter on the floor. We like our school to be clean and tidy. Another thing we have is a milk bin so we can throw away our used milk bottles and recycle them.

Healthy Eating Our school provides a healthy lunch with a vegetarian option and a delicious salad bar. Also we have meat-free Mondays and fishy Fridays. A lot of our fruit and vegetables are from our garden.

Outdoor Explorers One afternoon every week the Reception and Preschool classes go out onto the field behind the Astroturf and plant trees, collect leaves and play with our nature. They very much enjoy this session.

The Wider World What we do affects people in other places, so we hope our actions can help to make the world a better place. We do what we can to support the children from Port Reitz school in Kenya.
