1. Engineering Design Central Concepts: Engineering design involves practical problem solving, research, development, and invention/innovation, and requires designing, drawing, building, testing, and redesigning. Students should demonstrate the ability to use the engineering design process to solve a problem or meet a challenge. Ma.Science and Engineering Framework 2006

1.1Identify and explain the steps of the engineering design process: identify the problem, research the problem, develop possible solutions, select the best possible solution(s), construct prototypes and/or models, test and evaluate, communicate the solutions, and redesign. Identify the problem Research the problem Develop solutions Select the best solution Construct a prototype Test and evaluate Communicate the solutions Redesign Ma.Science and Engineering Framework 2006

Identify the problem Identify the problem in need of a solution. You have been hired to create a new Night table for a local furniture company. Add in details that help make it stand out. Ma.Science and Engineering Framework 2006

Research the problem By looking at examples I found that many didn’t have a spot to store your books or magazines, even though many people read before bed. Ma.Science and Engineering Framework 2006

Develop solutions Brainstorm after looking over how different designs work such as a shelf, size, of where it would be, an office or bedroom.

Select the best Possible solution(s) I went with a wooden night stand with two shelves on the Bottom of the stand to put books or magazines. I also Wanted it big enough to fit a night lamp and alarm clock. Ma.Science and Engineering Framework 2006

Construct a prototype After building the first parts of the stand I added in details Such as a bed, alarm clock, and lamp. Ma.Science and Engineering Framework 2006

Test and Evaluate the solution(s) After completing the design that I thought would catch the eye Of someone in need of the product. It can fit an alarm clock and A lamp. The shelves on the bottom were large enough to fit any Size book and any other magazines. Ma.Science and Engineering Framework 2006

Communicate the solution(s) Describe of how the solution(s) best meet(s) the initial need or problem. Ma.Science and Engineering Framework 2006

Communicate the solution(s) Part two Describe the social impacts and tradeoffs of the solution. Minimum 150 words Ma.Science and Engineering Framework 2006

Communicate the solution(s) Part three Develop a digital portfolio to communicate your engineering design project to the class. Ma.Science and Engineering Framework 2006

Redesign Overhaul the solution(s) based on information gathered during testing and presentation Ma.Science and Engineering Framework 2006
