We will be using this as the basis for newspaper report writing. Please collect some newspapers at home and read them with your child to help them with this project. One of the English groups, has been thinking about the length of the train journey, for those evacuated, and written instructions for games to play. These included: Eye-spy, Hangman and noughts and crosses. It’s been an enjoyable week in Class Two, despite all the rain! We are working hard on the play and most children have been trying to learn lines. We hope that all the children will know their parts completely by next week, so if possible please help your child if they have a speaking role. In RE with Miss Sheppard the children have been making Advent calendars and learning about Advent. Next week they will be making a Christingle. In maths I have been assessing the pupils and have been delighted with the progress that so many are making. Please continue to support your child by practising times tables at home, as this can really help. This week in literacy we have begun to look at non-fiction books to help us find out about different festivals. We have asked questions and found answers using the contents page and index to help us locate the pages we need. In art we have planned and designed our own masks and we will use these to make our own masks next week.

Uniform If you have uniform or other equipment at home that does not belong to your child, please bring it back. We have a few missing items of uniform, including a cardigan which has a name in it. Please check you have the correct one if your daughter is in key stage two. Parental survey On Tuesday, every family received an envelope with this term’s parental survey in it. You may need to take some time to complete this, some of the questions need a second read. Please complete and return this survey as soon as possible and before 12 th December Your voice is valuable to us and your answers help to shape school policy. Christmas Play Pupils have words to learn for the school play please help your child with this. Youth Club Friday’s 3.30pm to 5pm The Friends run a Youth Club every Friday evening but are short of helpers which is limiting the number of activities they can do with the children. If any parent/grandparent could spare some time to help on Friday’s this would be greatly appreciated. If you are interested please speak to Mrs Figes or Mrs Toman. Harvest Festival Fundraising Mrs Toman took several pupils from our school, to give a cheque to the Special babycare Unit at West Cumberland hospital, on Wednesday. They said, “ we saw two tiny babies Lola and Jake, we raised money for them from the harvest festival, so they could fit new equipment for the babies.” (Aimee, Deneka, Erin and Nathan) Children in Need Last Friday we raised £64 for ‘Children in Need’ when the children and staff came to school in their PJ’s! Christmas Fair Please can you start collecting bric-a-brac that you no longer want for our Christmas fair. We will also be collecting for the raffle. All monies raised will be used to subsidise events through-out the school year. We would like: old books and toys in good condition, household items, toiletries and food and drink items like boxes of chocolates.
