GURAME Our Strategy

We have defined our objectives with visible Specific, Measurable, Action oriented (Attainable) Realistic and Time bound. (SMART) Our objectives are to provide quality and affordable service in hospitality industry, Agriculture, small scale industry, manufacturing, and other business ventures as found profitable. We will make the most profits for investors; will create the most value for customers, and as a socially responsible business, we will make sure the society benefits from the outcome. In order to accomplish the task, we will have a short, medium and long term strategy/objective: Short term : Cafe, Restaurant, Gas station and water supply. Medium term: Resort/Hotel and Retail stores. Long term: Agriculture (food supply), Milk and small scale industry, Tourism, Recreation, Cinema.

Since it's birth, GURAME investment has very practical ideas and strategies to develop a socially responsible organization to tackle and reduce poverty in a form of business. Creating a viable, financial institution would address the issues and solve basic forms of social issues if managed accordingly. The investment group outlined it's vision and strategies to built a stable organization. We are a group of investors who would like to make a difference by satisfying the share holders as well as the community where we do business. We are not a bunch of optimists who think developments fall from the sky. We also do not have illusions about making changes to help society without doing the basic important ABC's of business. As known to many, societies problems never has been resolved by non profit organization nor foreign donors. If that was the case, Ethiopia would have been one of the top 10 countries to eradicate poverty by now.

Does GURAME try to resolve society problems ? That is not the case at all. Simply, we wanted to contribute to the society by creating employment, contribute to the educational institutes, provide clean water, and contribute to the developments in the area. Remember, the Gurage road association almost resolved the transportation hurdles in the 1960s.

Where does GURAME get the funds ? As mentioned several times in the past, it is an investment group with a defined goals to form a vibrant organization. Some have asked about where the fund to do business comes from. As mentioned on the first paragraph, if it is an investment company, for sure the money comes from shareholders. It is a shareholders company and will honor its commitment to the investors. Must make profit like many enterprises in the country. The scope is wide and the more capital the investment group generates, the execution of the plan would be reality. So far, it is very promising. Needs to capitalize the opportunities available in the country and make healthy profit and strive for excellence.

What makes the investment group different from other companies ? Well it is a good question. There is something which sets us apart from the others. We wanted to be a socially responsible entity who can share it's benefits with the community. By allocating a certain percentage of the profit for a common good.

How many percent of the profit goes to the society ? First and foremost, we create jobs and train the work force. Second, we will like to develop the work force and provide benefits. The percentage may vary based on how much profits the companies owned by the group bring to the table. The more profit the companies bring, the better for the society to benefit.

Who manages the business? As every one knows, the organization was established by few individuals, the vision and the strategy was to pass the responsibility to elected members of the board to manage the day today activities of the operation. As any business organization, the investment group will have structure which will have different departments to execute the plans. Project management, administration, finance, marketing, and auditor will be in place to report to the CEO of the company. The board members, will have responsibility to report to the chair person of the board. Corporate governance, transparency, accountability will be the focal point of the investment group. So far, we are successful as a group trying to invent something which was neglected for so many years. "The best way to predict the future is to invent it. " Peter Drucker.
