Presentation transcript:

The large ‘L’ attracts the audiences attention because it is placed behind the text. The vibrant red colour also grabs the audiences attention because it is the only colour on the page as well as anchoring the style of Q magazine. The main image has even been edited into a black and white tone which draws the attention even more to the ‘L’ and following the style of Q magazines black, red and white tones. The main image is a close mid shot, this enables the audience to feel more personal with Lady Gaga. The pose is chosen to attract those who are fond of the female form as it is quite a sexual and arousing pose because of the naked pose and connotations of the chain like necklace. This suits the style of Q magazine because it is known for having some sexual content within the articles. The image also reveals the characteristics of lady gaga and reflects her pop music genre. There is no masthead on this DPS which helps to intrigue the reader into reading the article as they would be curious of what it is about. The title of Lady Gaga’s name is at the top right hand side of the page which does help the audience to again notice who this artist is. The use of drop caps makes the page look more interesting to read because otherwise it looks like a big block of writing, it adds that edginess found in Lady Gaga’s style and the letter ‘S’ could also stand for ‘singer’ or may be adding an ‘S’ to the end of Lady Gaga making it ‘Lady Gaga’s’ which implies it is more personal because the text is about something that belongs to her.

The background text ‘USA’ implies to the audience that Florence Welch has been to America therefore the audience can automatically make assumptions of what the text is about and therefore they can read more because they want to know exactly what the text is about and how Florence connects with America. ‘USA’ is written in bold large capital letters drawing the audiences attention in and helping to represent what the article is about. The sub heading ‘got the love’ is part of the title of one of her songs ‘ you got the love’ because the sub heading is placed slightly over the main title ‘USA’ the ‘U’ is used to represent the full song title. This line of the song is well known and makes the audience sing this line in their head making them reflect on how good her music may be. Ironically the connotations of the song name ‘you got the love’ could also represent her love for America, America’s love for her and the readers love for Florence Welch. The font chosen for this song title is almost as though it is being sung as the letters are floaty and long connoting the notes being sung. The main image is a long shot of her whole body and the object she is sat on. Her body language and the way she is sat suggests her power and confidence to entertain an audience which reflects her and her music. The red hair, red cloth she is sat on and dark clothing helps to reflect her type of style but also anchors the main colour scheme of the magazine; white, red and black. This colour choice helps the magazine to target a higher class genre of people because the colours in fashion often create an idea of high class people. The use of drops caps creates a more musical kind of feel to the DPS because the letter ‘D’ is written in a floaty font connoting her soft sounding voice. The choice of blue coloured for ‘Florence Welch’ highlights what the text is about and makes her name an important part of the text because it draws attention to the audience’s eye as it is the only blue tones on the page therefore also intriguing the audience to read further about her.

The top half of the DPS shows the female silhouettes of the girl dancing which suggests she has an ability to dance similarly to her sister Beyoncé. These are edited into a grey scale which doesn’t over power the main image but yet they are still obvious to the reader because of their positioning at the top of the page. The audience are automatically drawn into this article when they see ‘sister’ and ‘Knowles’ because they draw that it is Beyoncé's sister therefore they are intrigued by the images of her sister dancing because Beyoncé is known as a really good dancer and it could imply conflict between them making the audience attention to this bigger because people always want to here about the latest news. The contrasting colours that Solange is wearing helps her to show her style to the audience and makes her the predominant part of the DPS because she is the most vibrant feature of the article. This is a feature that makes people want to read more because they are intrigued by her loud style and therefore it suggests she may have something loud to say in this article. The use of a pull quote makes the audience want to read more because they are almost being teased into what is being said in the article but they cannot sum up the whole point of the article from this quote because it only has a little bit of information in it. This technique makes readers read the article. The bright blue used for ‘Solange Knowles’ the females name helps her to build identity and people to recognise her. The contrasting colour catches the audiences eye and therefore shows the audience who this is about and makes them want to read more because of the vibrant tones it suggests this is something important to read. The blue tones tie in slightly with the colour of her fur jacket which the reader then makes a connection from the main image to her name because they are similar colours but stood far away from each other so they stand out on the black and white background.

The main image is a mid close up of Alexandra Burke which represents her confidence as a person and in her music and therefore makes the audience feel more of a connection with her because can see her up close. Alexandra is also looking into the camera which is another feature that makes the audience feel more of a connection because it is like they can create eye contact with her. These effects make the audience want to read more because they are able to read her facial expressions and want to know what else is going on in her life because in society today it is important to be in the know so that personal relationships are improved, uses of gratifications theory. The pose that Alexandra is doing could be seen as attractive to the male gender because of the connotations of her pose this therefore helps the magazine attract a big target audience and therefore make more money. The contrast od the darker tones against the pink works well together making it look good to the audiences eye but also attracts them to read the pink part of the text because it is different from the rest of the text, once the reader has read this text they will go on to read the rest of the article because they are intrigued by the pull quote. The colour pink has connotations of a girl and therefore is another part of the DPS that shows Alexandra’s personality and her ‘girly’ style of music. The use of a pull quote helps to attract the audiences attention because they are found as small bits of the text which are easy to read but often are the most interesting part of the text to draw the reader in so they want to read the rest of the article. The smaller image on the left hand page could be Alexandra singing which therefore represents the magazines genre of a music magazine but also shows Alexandra’s passion for music and singing. The jewellery she is wearing represents a fashionable style and therefore reflects the pop music genre of her songs.

The main image on that takes over a full A4 page of the DPS has been edited which enhances the pose that Katy Perry is posing making her image stand out strongly because of the extreme black and white tones. The pose she is holding suggests power and strength as a female and the text ‘girl girl girl’ on the opposing page suggests her want for girl power. However, to the male audience it may be seen as sexy because she looks confident therefore this attracts lots of genders. The text behind the main image is ‘Katy’ but the only visible letter is ‘K’ the audience know this is what the text says because she is a well known singer and therefore all they need is the ‘K’ of her first name to know what it says. The fact that a well known artist has been used as the main image makes the audience want to read more because they have background knowledge about her. The pink colour squiggled under her name on the left hand side represents her femininity but also makes her name stand out. Her name is not a daunting as some of the previous DPS’s I have looked at, this could be because she confident that people will know who she is by looking at her which again represents her confidence. The bubble like font in the title and Katy’s name creates a bold effect making all the text stand out more from the main block of text which catches the audiences eye and encourages them to read further.
