CASRAI in the UK Starting a New Chapter - April 2016 #casraiUK

Consortia Advancing Standards In Research Administration Informaton UK CASRAI: 5 Main Ingredients 1.An international nonprofit association of universities... 2.Leading a collective approach that combines best practices in data governance and open standards... 3.To develop, maintain and promote a small set of shared management protocols for research information... 4.So that we and our researchers have less administrative burden... 5.And more control and influence on how our impact is measured. #casraiUK

CASRAI: Key Benefits By and for universities, key issues resonate with researchers & management An approach that emphasises shared protocols and not just shared software Most cost effective, flexible, sustainable, and allows for multiple levels of engagement Local and national priorities first, with international linkages and integration following #casraiUK

●Projects develop common reusable definitions for interoperability ●Topics chosen by members ●Stakeholder members – higher education institutes, funders, suppliers (e.g. publishers) ●#casraiUK What is CASRAI-UK?

– Many inputs e.g. for Open Access - REF, RCUK/RIOXX, Horizon 2020, Charities Open Access Fund, Institutional Requirements….. –Community build - avoid replication Our system suppliers, ARMA, SCONUL, SCURL, RLUK, UKCoRR, COAR, CCC, Jisc initiatives, other countries work, the CASRAI dictionary…. Example #casraiUK

University Perspective: Interoperability 1.Start with CASRAI project producing a standard question-set, data-elements, terms and definitions for a priority business process/exchange 2.Choose a common data model e.g.Common European Research Information Format) 3.Identify things by persistent IDs [PIDS] orcid, DOI, ISNI, sni project orgid 4.Implemented by independent solution providers to move data in/out of our information systems #casraiUK
