Militarism and War Plans Wooyun Jo

What is Militarism? It means an excessive influence of the army on the political life of a nation.

Each great power(Germany, Austria-Hungary, France, Russia) had its offensive plans in They were optimistic about their ability to attack and defeat their potential enemies.

What is ‘preventive war’? To use an offensive military plan to prevent others attacking you. (Germany launched a preventive war in Some of the evidence- Germany’s military plan, the Schlieffen Plan.)

Kaiser Wilhelm II He was himself a great militarist. (He loved dressing up in military uniform.) He was inclined to make impulsive rather emotional statements. In 1914, Germany under Kaiser Wilgelm II and Russia not fully democratized while France and Britain were.

Schlieffen Plan This plan was made to protect Germany themselves from 2 other sides (East-Russia, West-France). It played an important part in starting the First World War. It reinforced French determination to fight together with Russia.

Belgium The quickest way to penetrate France defences on the French-German border was to go through Belgium. Britain had signed the original international treaty establishing Belgium’s neutrality. However, Germany did not pay much attention to the possibility of the British sending a land force, because their army was so small.
