VAYA / Tet Mission & Purpose TET Mission Preserve & Promote Vietnamese Culture Encourage leadership growth in the Vietnamese youth Opportunity for Community Service and Development Raise funds for educational and cultural programs VAYA Background The Vietnamese American Youth Alliance (V.A.Y.A), a 501(c)3 non- profit, non-partisan, community-based organization, was founded in 2004 as a means for Vietnamese American youth to organize socially and culturally within the local communities VAYA Mission At VAYA, we work to promote youth leadership, cultural awareness, social activism, and community development. Secretary Responsibilities: o Records and correspondence o Keeps an accurate record of the meetings and activities Budgeting Responsibilities: o Preparing financial reports and balancing committee budgets. o Financial policies, procedures, and controls o Receives and disburses, with the approval of the chairs, all Tet funds. Keeps an accurate account of all financial transactions

Sponsorship Mission / Purpose o To raise fund for Tet Festival 2010 while maximizing benefits for the sponsors. Responsibilities: o Arrange meetings with potential sponsors o Establish contracts with sponsors

Operations Committee Mission / Purpose o Site planning before the festival as well as manage general duties during the festival Responsibilities: o Design/Layout Festival Ground o Responsible for Tet festival operations  Security  Waste disposal  Traffic  Vendor Support

Vendor (100+ Booths) Mission / Purpose o To promote Vietnamese Culture through Arts, crafts, merchandise and food o To offer services to help the well being of the Vietnamese community Responsibilities: o Arrange meetings with potential vendors and arrange contracts o Ensure that all vendors meet health and safety regulations o Accommodate all vendors need before and during festival

Entertainment Mission / Purpose o To promote the VAYA mission and cultural o awareness through entertainment Responsibilities: o Provide entertainment throughout the 3 Day program o Opening Ceremony Program o Book Professional Performers / Performing Art Groups o VAYA Traditional Dance/Skit/Hip Hop Team

Cultural Village Mission / Purpose o To capture, through representation, an “authentic feel” of Vietnam’s rich culture and traditions. Responsibilities: o Create activities that foster education of Vietnamese culture o Managing creation of replica historical structures in Vietnam

Golden Voice Contest Mission / Purpose o To encourage Youth Participation in expressing of Vietnamese culture through “singing.” o To expose local youth talent and give them an opportunity to be “discovered” Responsibilities: o Recruit singers through local high schools and colleges o Publicity for the contest

Miss Vietnam San Diego Pageant Mission / Purpose o Elevating the Vietnamese-American female as a national symbol of beauty and pride o Preserve and promote the Vietnamese culture via the traditional dress ao dai Responsibilities: o Provide a mixer to recruit pageant contestants o Arrange judges for day of festival o Dance coordination

Mr. Vietnam San Diego Competition Mission / Purpose o Bring out the positive Vietnamese male images Responsibilities: o Provide a mixer to recruit pageant contestants o Arrange judges for day of festival o Dance coordination

Kids Spotlight Mission / Purpose o To encourage young Vietnamese American to show the true beauty, talent, and essence of their Vietnamese Culture Responsibilities: o Recruit youth through schools (and any other means) o Arrange for judges and prizes for day of event

Volunteer Mission / Purpose o Recruit volunteers through local high schools and colleges to help make our Tet Festival successful Responsibilities: o Reach out to local high schools and colleges o Coordinate with other committees to schedule volunteers

Ticketing Committee Mission / Purpose o Design the tickets for the festival as well as manage distribution of tickets during the festival Responsibilities: o Design & Print Admission Tickets o Make Staff, Volunteer, and Press badge o Special check-in booth for VIP, Press, Entertainers, Vendors, Volunteer. o Coordinate selling tickets during festival days

Public Relation Mission / Purpose: o To provide advertising and promotion of the Tet festival through all available mediums Responsibilities: o Responsibility contacting/inviting politicians, leaders in community o Promote and meet with City officials o Welcome city officials to Tet Festival o Contact and meet with other Vietnamese Orgs.

Publicity Mission / Purpose: To provide advertising and promotion of the Tet festival through all available mediums Street Squad Coordinate viral marketing / social network Responsibilities: 1. To promote interest in Tet which is achieved through:  Advertisements about Tet and related events  Brochures  Newsletters 2. Attract potential leaders for the community 3. Collaborate with organizations and incorporate their resources to advertise our event  Working with local American Media  Working with local Vietnamese Media to advertise for Tet

TAV Team (Technical Audio Video) Mission / Purpose: Management of all technical and audio/video needs of the festival, and Cultural Village Responsibilities: o In charge of Sound/Video, lighting, and main stage. Work with Sound Company.
