CORDOVA REBELLION The Córdova Rebellion, in 1839, was an uprising around Nacogdoches, Texas. Houston ordered that no one carry weapons in Nacogdoches Cordova didn’t agree along with several Cherokee Cordova and his men were beaten by Gen. TEXAS NAVY Edwin Moore, a US sailor, left the USN to form the Texas Navy Worried that budget cuts might cut back on the navy, he used Texas ships to blockade Mexico to force them to recognize Texas as a nation. WILLIAM GOYENS Free Black man who lived in Nacogdoches during the era of slavery. He was a blacksmith, sold wagons and operated a freight line. Often accused of being a runaway slave, he had to go to court to prove his freedom. He convinced the Cherokee to not take sides during the TX Revolt.
