Understanding Grief And Loss A Journey of Healing Christina Cassani, M.S. President and Executive Director Presented by Angel House Bereavement Center, Inc. 2015
What Society Teaches About Grief I should be finished grieving in three to six months. If my grief doesn’t look like everyone else’s, there is something wrong with me. If I stay busy, I won’t cry as much and I will feel better. I should not let grief stop my participation in special days, holidays and special events. I should be able to predict and control my grief. If my loss is not a spouse or child, I should “get over it” much sooner. Angel House Bereavement Center, Inc. 2015
Grief is the normal, natural expression of loss in all five life areas… physical, mental, social, emotional and spiritual. Grief is a process of healing that is often symbolic and irrational. Grief is not a weakness… it is a strength. Healing from a core loss requires grieving. No two people grieve the same and no two losses are the same… grief takes as long as it takes. Nothing will ever make things exactly as they were before. Angel House Bereavement Center, Inc What Is Grief?

Perception… Perspective… Mindfulness These are important tools in the growth and healing of grieving individuals. Simply stated, Perception is my awareness of ______________________. Perspective is the point of view from which I see ________________________. Mindfulness is my choice to be present in this moment with __________________________.
