How to Use Retention Settings – Sharp Printers This brief tutorial will help you set retention settings which will allow you to send a print job to the Sharp printers where you can either hold it in a queue/folder or print it out while present at the printer. This is handy when printing confidential files.

Printer Properties In nearly all Windows application, the Printer Properties option is available as a selection from the Print dialog. In order to reach the Print dialog, you must use the print option that is found in the File menu or by pressing CTRL-P. Clicking the printer icon that is available in many applications completely bypasses the print dialog.

Step 1 Access the location of Retention Settings To permanently set retention settings on your computer click on Start Menu and click on either Devices and Printers (Windows 7) or Printers and Faxes (Windows XP). Right click your printer and select Printing Preferences. If you choose later to not use permanent retention the following steps will need to be reversed.

Setting retention from programs To apply to Printer Properties in the programs that you are printing from hit CTRL P or go to File  Print and select printer properties. Please note, setting retention in this way will not be permanent and will disappear when closing the program.

Step 2 Setting Retention Follow below steps: Click on the “Job Handling” tab Check “Retention” Check “Hold Only” Check “Password” and enter password Under Document Filing Settings check “Mail Folder” Click “OK” or “Apply” DONE! You have now set your retention settings for a Sharp printer.
