Learn about the parable of the Good Samaritan. Learn how Christian may use this parable to be a role model. ALL - Pupils will know the main parts of parable of the Good Samaritan. (Level 3) MOST – Pupils will apply their knowledge of the story to create a modern day version of it. (Level 4) SOME – Pupils will analyse a person and evaluate whether they are a role model. (Level 5/6)

Let’s watch the parable of the Good Samaritan…

A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he fell into the hands of robbers. The robbers let him pass because they felt nice that day. A priest saw the beaten man and walked past. A temple helper saw the beaten man and helped. The Samaritan saw the man, treated his wounds and took him to an inn to recover. True False True False True

In groups of 2/3 you will create a modern day version of the Good Samaritan. You will have 10 minutes to create it. Then 5 minutes to present your story to your peers. One person must think about how you are going to make your modern day version gripping. One must be the scribe e.g. writing out the story. One must present your story to another group.

Excellent when - Your modern version includes creative characters that shows the meaning of the story. Outstanding when - Your modern version shows how people you would expect to help do not. TIP: Who are you going to include as your characters? E.g. The Jew could be an Everton fan and the Samaritan could be a Liverpool fan.

Presenters - swap groups and tell them your modern day version! Use the criteria to assess the story, give a verbal RAG mark and explain your reasons. Outstanding when - Your modern version shows how people you would expect to help do not.
