House Styles

What is House Style? Basically a house style is a set of rules which state how all documents and written communication from a business should be formatted. It will govern things such as - the colours to be used - the font style and size - where the logo should appear - whether text should be right, centre or fully justified - how the address and contact details should be presented

Not just websites… Letter headed paper Business cards Memos Faxes Reports Presentation slides Signage Advertising Brochures Product manuals

Colour palette Colours help set a mood - for instance consider these colours: – Orange: Expresses energy, warmth, attention grabbing – Blue: Seriousness, stability, trust – Black: Sophistication, technology, power – Green: Spring, generosity, health

Fonts / Typography Fonts help set the tone. A heavy, dense font conveys quite a different feeling compared to a fancy, curly script. A house style will define the font to use for headers and body text in all formal communication - whether it is a brochure, pamphlet, PowerPoint presentation, poster and so on. Typography defines how all the other elements of text is to look : Capitals, italics, bullet point style and so on.

Other things to consider… Margins and White space Graphics and Logos Tone of language

Biased and Unreliability An Author’s Purpose: Persuade Inform Entertain Sell

How can you check to see if a website is more authentic? Does it have adverts When was it last updated? Does it list is sources / references Does it have a contact us page? Does it have a genuine looking URL eg.co.uk and not.biz THES CANT GUARNTEE THAT THE CONTENT IS AUTHENTIC, BUT IT IS THE BEST YOU CAN DO.

Use the practical workbook (printed / Moodle) Go to page 33 Complete the Word task. You will have to write a report, yourselves.
