Enabling Grids for E-sciencE INFSO-RI Overview of EU Review report and next steps - AA meeting - 10/03/05 4 Related Projects If any of the related project proposals presented by Fab are approved then they will need support. –There is a load on us now during the proposal preparation stage –They will affect EGEE II more than EGEE I and must be taken into account in the proposal planning Approved EU projects should not short-circuit our selection criteria process for applications –Letters of support should be made “conditional” –In April/May timeline should know which are approved and hence do a more in-depth for analysis of needs/advantages

Enabling Grids for E-sciencE INFSO-RI Overview of EU Review report and next steps - AA meeting - 10/03/05 5 JRA2 Advance 2 nd annual report sw related metrics will be revised in conjunction with JRA1 For installation just compare feedback from 1 st and 2 nd user/trainer reviews –Also take into account feedback form training sessions

Enabling Grids for E-sciencE INFSO-RI Overview of EU Review report and next steps - AA meeting - 10/03/05 6 SA1 Further develop straw-man migration plan as experience with gLite is gathered –Next occasion is the Athens conference? Re-scope assessment deliverable to remove “commercial take-up” –Need this for EGEE phase II proposal so do it there instead Redefine final milestones/deliverables not be linked to specific gLite version

Enabling Grids for E-sciencE INFSO-RI Overview of EU Review report and next steps - AA meeting - 10/03/05 7 NA4 Key issues to encourage users/application to migrate from LCG2 to gLite –Robustness, scale, OS support Validation of gLite performed on pre-production –Start with LHC experiments  Migrate ARDA prototypes –Biomed come afterwards –Generic apps migrated during dedicated retreats (to be scheduled) GILDA testbed migration start with the Catania site –GENIUS portal should hide details from the user –co-existence with LCG2 is important for migration of other sites –Must maintain concept that GILDA runs the same mware as the production service

Enabling Grids for E-sciencE INFSO-RI Overview of EU Review report and next steps - AA meeting - 10/03/05 8 NA4 cont. NA4 testing team helping with gLite functionality testing –Will return “application level” testing later Requirements –Explain process currently in place and input taken from a set of projects –Make requirements analysis part of process for new applications with MoUs EGAAP –Must clarify more the benefits and needs of grids with the new applications –No call for next EGAAP meeting –UIG to produce information clarifying what is on offer to applications Porting workflow software (TAVERNA/TRIANA) to gLite –Must be shown to be useful to applications –We provide consultancy but porting manpower must come from providers/applications MoUs –Need to be agreed with PEB quickly and ready for all current projects by Athens –No engagement by EGEE until MoU signed

Enabling Grids for E-sciencE INFSO-RI Overview of EU Review report and next steps - AA meeting - 10/03/05 9 NA4 cont User Survey –Circulate user survey to PEB and take feedback –Start with one “pilot” group to test the way the survey works

Enabling Grids for E-sciencE INFSO-RI Overview of EU Review report and next steps - AA meeting - 10/03/05 10 JRA1 Porting of existing work-flow sw (e.g. TAVERNA) to be done by other groups with advice from JRA1 Refined definition of sw quality metric established –Target is not 1 bug per 10 LOC –Publish results in time for the next review Porting applications –As part of project –wide migration plan, foresee taskforces involving JRA1 people to help with migration Co-scheduling –Not clear which application requesting this facility (check with NA4) and not currently possible so will not be done in EGEE –Consider comp. Science GILDA in EGEE II (or a related project?) for such work External packages –Divide into 2 groups: those we can influence (Condor, Globus, dCache) against those which are more widely used (mySQL)

Enabling Grids for E-sciencE INFSO-RI Overview of EU Review report and next steps - AA meeting - 10/03/05 11 JRA1 cont. Architecture and design documents –Need to define process to ensure application and operations input is taken into account –Must take into feedback from use of gLite v1.0 Final report –Decide if it can at be advanced to PM23 Documentation –SA1 (EIS, testing), ARDA groups will look at some documents –All project groups should say which documents they will check –JRA1 will produce a quick-start guide –Also get other projects to check them as well

Enabling Grids for E-sciencE INFSO-RI Overview of EU Review report and next steps - AA meeting - 10/03/05 12 NA3 Corrections to deliverables and review slides made –Only a couple of figures were wrong –Need to re-submit deliverable at end of month. Oversubscription for courses –Tell organisers to keep statistics/contacts Combine and advance final reports to PM21 eLearning –Person appointed and workplan developed Material archive –Improvements foreseen gLite migration –Advertising for person to port LCG2 tutorial material –First gLite training events scheduled for May Importance of EBI for Biomedical Check dates for survey –May need to change in TA

Enabling Grids for E-sciencE INFSO-RI Overview of EU Review report and next steps - AA meeting - 10/03/05 13 NA2 More “glossy” info for politicians/executives –Need new material for Athens conference Success stories –Roberto B. to announce when a new application runs on GILDA –NA4/SA1 group to say when a new application is running on production-service Events –Work with PEB to prioritize the list already distributed DNA2.7 – advance from PM24 to PM21 Athens –Demo – Terena will draft to be distributed by PEB & PMB –Session details to be completed by end of March Manpower –Terena NA2 team changes

Enabling Grids for E-sciencE INFSO-RI Overview of EU Review report and next steps - AA meeting - 10/03/05 14 NA5 EGEE position paper compared to eIRG white paper –To be done by eIRG workshop (13 May Amsterdam – TERENA involved) –Next eIRG meting June –eIRG likely to have larger role/scope in medium/long-term future NA5 new “concertation” deliverable –Will be include in PM18 deliverable Concertation working groups now set-up –EGEE members participating –Security (chair Ake Edlund) Many uncertainties about future –Scope changes –Manpower changes

Enabling Grids for E-sciencE INFSO-RI Overview of EU Review report and next steps - AA meeting - 10/03/05 15 JRA3 Relationship between JRA3 and LibertyAlliance analysed Involvement in standards bodies –GGF (Olle M., Dane Crow co-chairs) –EUGridPMA Doing work-plan not release plan –Release only established once we get feedback from applications and operations on use of gLite v1.0 Final deliverables –Advance DJRA3.4 Need to decide when and how to handle “scheduled attacks” and how to report on results

Enabling Grids for E-sciencE INFSO-RI Overview of EU Review report and next steps - AA meeting - 10/03/05 16 SA2 Trouble ticketing link between networks and GGUS established –For MSA2.3 Identify performance limitations –Answer to recommendation should be pro-active: do analysis of where you believe there could bottlenecks for the applications QoS –PM13 and partial report at Athens conference “Specify expected capabilities…” recommendation needs clarification GEANT/NRENS changes for project functionality –SA2 to participate to meeting organised by TERENA (May 12 th )? Make sure responses to recommendations really answer the question or ask for clarification (Monday 14 th March) Can advance DSA2.3 earlier

Enabling Grids for E-sciencE INFSO-RI Overview of EU Review report and next steps - AA meeting - 10/03/05 17 JRA4 Include details of WP7 tools/ GEANT prototype work as part of answer to recommendation on NPM interoperability Co-scheduling recommendation - will not be addressed Clarify the JRA4 work can provide proof-of-principle but it will take longer for deployment by NRENs –Ideas for EGEE II

Enabling Grids for E-sciencE INFSO-RI Overview of EU Review report and next steps - AA meeting - 10/03/05 18 AA meeting How people feel about the new 2 day format? –I personally found it less tiring and easier to concentrate Updating the TA and answering the recommendations is VERY IMPORANT –And an opportunity to adjust the work to make our lives easier THANKS TO EVERYONE FOR COMING
