Food production in Poland

Poland is on the 6 th place of food production in EU Most of our products are certified by the quality certificates and thanks to them Polish products have gained recognition all around the world. Food business has modern food- processing plants and its pace of increase mainly depends on export.

Export About 30 % of food produced in Poland is exported

Among the most dominating products are: meat and its preserves,diary products, confectionery, chocolate, fresh and frozen fruits and vegetables, smoked fish. Their destinations are mainly: Germany, Great Britain and Russia. The food industry in Poland is characterized by a huge number of small and dispersed plants. Industrial plants employ about 544 thousand people.

Some companies producing food in Poland Wawel, Wedel, Sokołów, Gerber, Winiary, Tarczyn, Amino, Lubella, Hortex, Tymbark, Lu, Winiary

Amino is one of the oldest brands in Poland. It was founded in 1968 in Poznań. Since 1970s Amino has been producing concentrates, powdered desserts,instant soups or spices.

Another Polish brand is Lubella placed in Lublin. It all began at the end of 19 th century and the first mill (called Krausse's Mill) was founded and it's been a part of a company since there. Lubella is the leading company of pasta market in Poland. It is famous and highly valued for cereal products such as flour, groats, salty sticks and cornflakes.

Tymbark and Tarczyn are among the most famous producers of fruit and vegetable processing. They enrich Polish market in products like juices or jams

Hortex with the similar producing profile enriches Polish market in frozen fruit and vegetables

Winiary- the symbol of home cooking and family atmosphere

Sokołów is one of the most famous brands in Poland as well as abroad. The company offers healthy and safe food supported by many certificates. Its products are exported to countires such as Japan, Russia, South Korea and the USA. The company is situated in Sokołów Podlaski and consists of seven production plants. One of them is in Jarosław, a town nearby Roźwienica

In Widna Góra, a place near Roźwienica, there is a meat production plant called Szarek. The company produces meat from pork and beef, it is also equipped with smoking chamber. They offer about 90 kinds of meat products.

Wedel is the first chocolate factory in Poland. Among the products there are: ptasie mleczko (chocolate marshmallows), Wedel cake, sesame snaps, halvas, wafers, lollipops, chocolate bars, cocoa and other chocolate snacks.

The brand of Wawel was established thanks to combination excellent Polish recipes and chocolate taste that have been improved over the years. The tradition of company dates back to late XIX century when a journeyman Adam Piasecki decided to establish a confectionery workshop in Krakow. All of the products are produced using traditional methods. 14 th January 2014 the company was awarded “The Best Product of the Year”. Wawel offers different kinds of chocolate and sweets. Its products are mainly sold in domestic market.

Our local brands- LU and SAN

Gerber is another leading brand in Polish market. Since 1992 the company has been producing food for babies. All the products are totally healthy, they do not contain any preservatives or food colorings.

Poland is also famous as a producer of dairy products, among them there are products of such brands as Krasnystaw, Mlekovita, Gostyń, Garwolin.

Oscypek is among the most famous diary products, smoked cheese made of sheep milk. Typical in Poland and well known in Europe

Ecological farming Polish people are eating more and more ecologically produced food. The market of ecological food is currently estimated at 100 million Euros. Certificate Food is bought by about 7% of population, mainly in specialist shops (about 200), in supermarkets with ecological food or directly from farmers. The area of ecological farming is growing dynamically. According to the research in 2010 there were ecological farms.

Unfortunately Poland is the producer of genetically modified food: - 100% of forage for animals is genetically modified - 100% of soya is also genetically modified - about 80% of corn (thousands of hectares are sowed with genetically modified corn and Poland is the power of producing corn and corn syrup- cheap equivalent of sugar
