Submission doc.: IEEE /0662r0 May, 2016 Jing Ma, NICTSlide 1 Further consideration on channel access rule to facilitate MU transmission opportunity Date: Authors:

Submission doc.: IEEE /0662r0 Background As specified in 11ax, MU operation is crucial to improve the channel efficiency and BSS throughput And, HE MU operations have been specified in 11ax draft 0.1[1] − AP initiates MU DL/UL transmission AP transmits simultaneously to one or more non-AP STAs using MU DL transmission. AP initiates trigger frame to solicit immediate simultaneous response frames using HE trigger-based PPDU format from one or more non-AP STAs in MU UL transmission. Jing Ma, NICTSlide 2 May, 2016

Submission doc.: IEEE /0662r0 Issue However, in dense deployed scenario, such as SS3 (1 AP/ 30~40 STAs per BSS), AP has to compete with a large number of STAs to access channel and actually gets less chance accessing the channel to initiate MU DL/UL transmission. −( base line operation) An AP/STA shall invoke backoff procedure with the same backoff parameter values following an idle DIFS/EIFS period. Jing Ma, NICTSlide 3 May, 2016

Submission doc.: IEEE /0662r0 Proposal – 1 We propose increase AP’s probability to access channel by reducing the backoff window. −For example, let AP’s random() function has smaller range. Reducing CWmin and CWmax provides AP with small initial CW backoff window. Jing Ma, NICTSlide 4 May, 2016

Submission doc.: IEEE /0662r0 Proposal – 2 To further facilitate UL MU transmission, AP shall set trigger frame / MPDU with trigger information / A-MPDU with trigger frame to access category AC_VO. ⇒ resolution for CID 799 Jing Ma, NICTSlide 5 May, 2016

Submission doc.: IEEE /0662r0 Proposal - 3 To increase AP’s transmission opportunity, AP should be allowed to use a set of EDCA parameter with values smaller than it advertises to the STAs in its BSS. −Current channel access mechanism allows AP to set different EDCA parameters for non-AP STA [2] In baseline, The QoS AP shall announce the EDCA parameters in selected Beacon frames and in all Probe Response and (Re)Association Response frames by the inclusion of the EDCA Parameter Set element using the information from the MIB entries in dot11ECDATable. If no such element is received, the STAs shall use the default values for the parameters. The AP may use a different set of EDCA parameter values than it advertises to the STAs in its BSS ⇒ resolution for CID 799 Jing Ma, NICTSlide 6 May, 2016

Submission doc.: IEEE /0662r0 SP 1 Do you agree to add to the following to 11ax TG SFD (10.22 HCF): −(Current in baseline) BlockAckReq and BlockAck frames shall be sent using the same access category as the corresponding QoS data frames. PS-Poll frames shall be sent using the access category AC_BE (to reduce the likelihood of collision following a Beacon frame) and are exempted from any and all restrictions on transmissions arising from admission control procedures. When the first frame in a frame exchange sequence is an RTS or CTS frame, the RTS or CTS frame shall be transmitted using the access category of the corresponding QoS Data/QoS Null frame(s) or AC_VO for management frames. (New for 11 ax) Trigger frame / MPDU with trigger information / A-MPDU with trigger frame shall be sent using the access category AC_VO. Jing Ma, NICTSlide 7 May, 2016

Submission doc.: IEEE /0662r0 SP 2 Do you agree to add to the following to 11ax TG SFD (10.22 HCF): −(Current in base line) The AP may use a different set of EDCA parameter values than it advertises to the STAs in its BSS. (New for 11ax) For HE MU transmission, the AP should be allowed to use a set of EDCA parameter with smaller values than it advertises to the STAs in its BSS. Jing Ma, NICTSlide 8 May, 2016
