TOBACCO

What is Tobacco? Is a agricultural crop…..

Why is it so harmful? Because people consume it!!

Smoking Cigarettes: About 21% of men and about 16% of women in the United States smoke cigarettes.

What do cigarettes contain: Dried tobacco leaves plus about 600 additives… Including: -Ammonia – a common household cleaner. -Lead – used in batteries. -Tar – material for paving roads. -Toluene - used to manufacture paint.

When these 600 additives are burned they create about 7,000 chemicals, including about 70 known to cause cancer. Some of these cause heart and lung disease as well.

Smoking Cigarettes: The life expectancy for smokers is at least 10 years shorter than non smokers. Smoking harms nearly every organ in the body. Main cause of cancer, is also a cause of heart and lung diseases, and a host of other diseases.

Cancer: Smoking causes many types of cancer, including cancers of the throat, mouth, nasal cavity, esophagus, stomach, pancreas, kidney, bladder, cervix, and many more places. Smoking is a leading cause of cancer and death from cancer in the United States.

Emphysema: Emphysema is the main type of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) Emphysema results when the delicate linings of the air sacs in the lungs are damaged, due to smoking.

Results: Airflow inflammation. Very difficult to inhale or exhale air in and out of yours lungs. Hard to breath.

Secondhand Smoking Nonsmokers have a percent greater chance of developing any type of cancer or disease that a smoker develops if they are exposed to secondhand smoke. Secondhand smoking causes nearly 42,000 deaths each year.

Quit Smoking: Nicotine is the ingredient in cigarettes that causes addiction. Quitting smoking many take multiple attempts: Counseling and medication helps! o Nicotine patches, nicotine gum and nicotine lozenges.

Smokeless Tobacco: Chewing tobacco. About 3.5% of people people in United States use smokeless tobacco

Smokeless Tobacco: Most cancers. Heart disease, heart attacks, and strokes. Gum disease. Leukoplakia. Bone loss around the roots of the teeth Tooth loss.

Deaths: Tobacco causes about one of every five deaths in the United States: About 278,554 deaths annually among men. About 201,773 deaths annually among women.
