I am against stealing cars and I myself will never steal a car. People need their cars to get around and go to work. Cars can also be very expensive and are not easy to replace. I think it is seen as a negative deviant act all around the US because everyone has a car but nobody wants to get their car stolen. I would not want my car stolen. The closest I have been to this experience is getting my car broken into and some items being stolen.

Most of the time when a car is being stolen or broken into the car is alone. In other cases there can be a carjacking. When you are getting carjacked it is that the car is forcefully being taking from another person. Most of the time you are being threatened by a weapon. Carjacking is not as common as the regular car being stolen under the radar.

Chop shops are the places where stolen cars are disassembled and sold, piece by piece. Stealing a car just to sell the body parts is very common. When cars are stolen for chop shops you see older models being stolen for this. Chop shops prefer older models for the rare and hard to find body parts they have on them.

The 1994 Honda Accord is the most common stolen car in the US. The Honda Accord is commonly stolen for the old body parts that chop shops go after. This year of model is also easier and safer to steal then more recent models. Cars built now have better alarm systems and better ways to track them.

In 2010 Arizona was rated as number 8 in car theft. The car theft in Arizona has a decreasing trend and has gone down from 26,000 to 22,000 during 2009 to % of the stolen cars in 2010 were recovered.

In 2010 California was the top rated state for car theft. In 2011 California held seven out of the ten metro areas with the highest auto theft rates in Fresno, Modesto and Bakersfield California are the top three in those ratings.

NICB is reporting that 2011 is on vehicle theft decline. In 2010 the recorded stats for stolen cars was 737,142. From the stolen cars in 2010 the estimated property loss was calculated at $4.5 billion. Since 2010 a 3.3% reduction has been seen in crime statistics for car theft.

After learning more on the topic of Car Theft I still feel the same about it. I also think it would be a good idea do start programs the would help decrease car theft all over the US. I did not know that there were that many cars related to vehicle theft. I feel as if people should be more alert about how many cars get stolen or broken into every year. Nobody should purchase a 1994 Honda Accord.
