Causes and Effects of Poverty Members: Darine Cheaito and Alaa Fares

Outline Nowadays, Lebanon is facing a critical problem which is poverty. Poverty is a dangerous phenomenon that is increasing day after day in Lebanon. There are around 70% of people who suffer from poverty in Lebanon, and the problem here is that our government does not take seriously and in consideration what Lebanon is going through.

Introduction Every day, poverty kills more than 50,000 innocent people - 18 million every year.1.37 billion people live on less than $1.25 a day, and 2.56 billion live on less than $2 a day. Moreover, 5.05 billion people (more than 80 percent of the world's population) live on less than $10 a day. When the UN created the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948, the signers proclaimed that all people have the right to education, work, health and well-being. Today, however, millions around the world are too crippled by poverty to fulfill these basic rights. Millions continue to go hungry. Scores of children never step inside a classroom. Families watch their loved ones die from largely preventable causes because they do not have access to adequate medical care. In essence, poverty is a denial of human rights.

Discussion Poverty is the state for the majority of the world’s people and nations. There are many causes and effects for poverty. Such causes of poverty and inequality are not enough. But deeper and more global causes of poverty are often less discussed. Poverty is the state of one who lacks a certain amount of material possessions or money. Absolute poverty or destitution is inability to afford basic human needs, which commonly includes clean and fresh water, nutrition, health care, education, clothing and shelter.Absolute povertybasic human needsclean and fresh waternutritionhealth careeducation

Causes Unemployment Economic situation Government responsibilities Overpopulation Global Distribution of Resources Inadequate Education and Employment Environmental Degradation Economic and Demographic Trends Individual Responsibility and Welfare Dependency

Effects Immigration of minds Crime Distortion of the Lebanese civilization Lack of opportunity Mental and physical aliments Drug abuse and addiction Child and woman abuse Homelessness Debt Pressures Educational deprivation

Conclusion Regarding the points discussed, poverty should be alleviating by the pressure from the citizens on government to get better live conditions, taking in consideration the different classes in the Lebanese society. Poverty is a real problem that more than one country are facing nowadays, people should united together to improve the life.

Recommendations Establish private institutions by the ministry of social care for the poor people. Citizens should raise their voice to increase the job opportunities, and to raise the salaries. Rich people should help the poor people by giving them amount of money at the end of each month. Foreign people can give billions of dollars to the government in order to help poor people.
